The bleak Gotham sky swirled above shades of gray and black. People ran this way and that on the streets, not fearing the rain that was sure to come. Many of these pedestrians were on their way to or from the many nightclubs within the city, there eyes blinded by flashing lights and their ears ringing from loud music.
But not all were so. One man walked down the street his eyes shifting nervously in their sockets and sweet pouring from his brow. The people around moved around him or across the street at his presence, treating him like an open manhole. The man didn't care what they did or thought. He was to busy with his own thoughts and needs.
The man became excited as he entered the alley he had become so familiar with. In a dark corner of the alley sat a group of three men, they immediately recognized the small nervous man.
"Eddie! Wondering when you gonna be back." Said one of the men, as he checked his blood red Mohawk.
"What up Eddie? You look like some put powder in your mail man." Another said laughing at Eddie's expense, knowing exactly why he was in his current state.
"Just give me the usual man, and I'll be on my way." Eddie said quickly to the man who had yet to say a word.
"What's with you, Eddie? Huh? Not liking our company?" said the first man as stepped in front of the nervous druggie. Eddie stammered stepping back from the gangster. The gangster only stepped closer, grinning in a way that frightened Eddie in a way he never felt before.
"Enough." Ordered the man who had been silent thus far. "Give him your money and get outta here." He said throwing a small plastic bag to Eddie, who in turn handed the appropriate amount of money to the mohawked man who had been tormenting him.
"Thank you Snake. Thank you." Eddie said to the man who just saved him from the abuse of the gangster.
"Get outta here." The man replied waving him off.
With business done and the hours growing late the group of gangsters walked off into the darkness as Eddie ran off to get his fix. High above the alley floor looking down at the three men as they walked, a figure stared down at them from the rooftop. It turned to another figure standing next to it before looking down at the alley again it's eyes flashing a venomous green before disappearing.
