Will sat on the porch, savouring the rare moment when he had nothing to do. He scuffed his feet, which were bare, on the veranda. He'd taken his soft boots and socks off in favour of the warmer weather, determined to enjoy it before time flew by and snatched the summer with it.
Halt sat on his chair on the opposite side of the veranda, sipping coffee and reading, for once, not a report but a book. Will had glanced at it earlier and found it to be a book about a mythical land called 'Camelot.'
"Halt," Will said, a question about to come out. Although, Halt thought to himself, knowing Will, it would be more like three or four questions. He sighed and partially closed the book. Will took this as a sign to continue, and did so.
"Why are bunnies associated with Easter?"
"Because they're everywhere in the spring, which is when Easter is," Halt said, and though he was mostly guessing, he didn't let it show. A bird twittered in a nearby tree, and somewhere off in the distance a woodpecker drilled into a dead pine in search of bugs.
"What about chicks? Why are they associated with Easter?" Will asked.
"Same reason as bunnies."
"But chicks often hatch year-round," Will pointed out.
"Yes, however they usually start in the Spring," Halt said.
"Why do people like to dye eggs during Easter?"
"Because Easter celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus and for Christians the egg is a symbol of that. People originally dyed eggs red to represent the blood of Him, and it soon spread to other colours."
"How is chocolate made? No, wait, hotdogs! How are they made?" Will asked, eyes wide.
"You don't want to know," Halt said, wincing.
"How do you know all this stuff about Easter and hotdogs?" Will queried.
"Because I do my research," Halt answered.
"Why do you do your research on hotdogs?"
"Because of Gilan."
"Oh."
"Oh indeed," Halt grunted, returning to his book.
It's short and it's stupid but hey, at least you learned about Easter and eggs and stuff! Now you can boast to others that you know this stuff. XD
Happy Easter!
