Silent Night

The night was quiet about her. Almost like the silence before a bad storm, but the storm was not coming.

Arwen listened hard, trying to hear the comforting sounds of crickets and other night time creatures, but they must have all decided to sleep like she should be doing. Or perhaps they had left with...

A slight noise caught her interest then, as someone noisily walked past her room. It must have been a wayward Man, as she was sure no Elf could make that much noise in simply walking.

The person soon had gone, but it had left her once again in the silence of the night. Panic rose inside her at the thought of being alone.

Without much thought to whomever might be in listening distance, she began to wail loudly, hoping that someone would come, as the noise she herself was making wasn't enough to make the entire valley seem empty. Tears soon joined in her angry sounds, slipping down her face.

Her door slowly opened and a dark head she had known her whole life peeked into the room. "Arwen? Are you alright?" Asked the raven-haired Elf, as he stepped fully into the room and slowly walked towards her.

"I want nana!" She cried, her wailing stopping in favour of letting the lonely, scared sobs she had been trying to hold back finally escape her.

Arms wrapped about her then and pulled her close. "I know, Arwen. She will be back soon, not to worry. As will your ada and your brothers."

Elrond and Celebrían had been visiting over at Lothlorien and had taken the twins with them. Still a little young for such a long trip, Arwen had been left in the capable hands of Glorfindel and himself, but Glorfindel had been called to do a patrol and he had been busy tonight.

This was the first night the young girl had tried to go to sleep without one of them present.

Erestor let the small, delicate hands of the child wrap in his hair and cling there as Arwen cried out her fears of being alone. After a few minutes sobs turned to sniffles which then turned into silence once again.

"Stay with me." The quiet voice beckoned and, no matter how busy he was with his own work, he knew he could not refuse.

"Of course." He replied, before getting as comfortable as he could on the bed, with Arwen lying across him. Neither spoke, but it didn't seem too matter now. Arwen could once again hear the crickets chirping their songs to the moon.

In what seemed no time at all, the gentle presence of Erestor mixed with the sounds of the world about her, lulled her to sleep. Erestor held her to him, knowing if he left this soon Arwen would wake and get upset again.

Soon he had forgotten what he had left to work on that night and fell into a peaceful sleep himself.

A/N - Just a small Arwen story that sprang into my mind. I have been reading a lot of stories lately with Glorfindel with one of Elrond's children, but poor Erestor is always too busy to do so. So, I got him away from whatever he was doing and look at the fluffiness that ensues.

I had fun writing this small fic. Hope some people out there enjoy reading it.
