Short story about Pride! Ed and Envy, yah. Love this pairing, it's quickly growing to be my most favorite. Not like it's much of a change though, before it was Ed X Envy. XX

THE BLUE FEATHER

Staring up at the clouding sky, Pride was a blank. His mind a white canvass just waiting to be painted on to an artist's desired effects, his eyes un-seeing and out of focus and his appearance as forgetfull as a mirage. He didnt stand out and yet at the same time he was the most unique thing for miles.Well, except for maybe his elder brother who was watching him from somewhere at a far. He was giving Pride his space-for once!-and the blonde was feeling strangly alone without the green haired sin hovering over him constantly.

Pride looked away from the sky and down at the ground where he noticed he was standing in a patch of flowers, the blue petal's ,withered and dying already before he'd came, were pooling around his bare feet. The small plant's were so small and miniscule and yet he felt a sting of sadness over whelm him at seeing the harmless thing's dying away slowly.

Kneeling down, Pride scooped a handfull of the petal's into his hand's and held them closely to his chest. He felt so sad over the "deaths" of such small thing's. It was foolish of him but he couldnt help himself. The short life and inevitable death of the plant's reminded him of somthing, though he couldnt quit place what. The memory was more of a feeling than an actual picture of somthing. It was odd.

But no where near as odd as feeling thin arm's wrap tightly around his shoulder's in a comforting manner that belonged to none other than Envy. It was easy to realize it was the jealous one due to the cut off gloves on the hand's attached to the arm's palced securely over him possesivly, almost protectivly. Pride glanced over his shoulder's into the violet eyes that regarded him with an wierd expression he'd never seen his older brother use before.

"Dont feel badly for the flower's, Pride," spoke Envy in an uncarring tone, his eyes still holding that strange look to them. "their ending was un-escapable, as is the ending for humans. There's no point in weeping for those that would have fallen even if you had tried to help them."

The hand's slid down Pride's chest and started to pull his hand's away, trying to get him to release the fallen pedal's. Envy's voice was low and commanding in his ear, even through the protective sheild of his sun bright hair the hot breath still left a chill. "Now let them go."

Pride's brow furrowed slightly but he complied non the less and opened his hand's revealing the blue feather in the eerie moon light. A spark of regonition flashed across his blank gold eyes at seeing the small object, so light and soft against his skin. "A blue bird's feather...?"

Envy's odd expression contorted into one of confusion at hearing the small mumble from his brother under neath him. The younger homunculus had spoken so softly he hadnt heard what he'd said and now leaned in closer toward's his face, over his shoulder. "What was that Pride?"

A strong wind blew by, swaying green and blonde lock's of hair gently, playfully , and the small flower pedal's floated away into the night. Pride sighed, leaning back against his elder sibling, sinking into the embrace with an un-emotional look upon his features, just as it had been before.

"Nothing, I didnt say anything. Forget about it."
