Ms. Sally Jackson watched from the top of the Empire State Building. She was waiting for her husband, who she had not seen in sixteen years. Her husband, also the father of her fifteen-year-old son, Percy Jackson. Poor Percy, who had refused to talk to anyone since he was old enough to know why he was born.
The view was spectacular. She could see the whole city from up there, and the figures of people. As she waited and watched, she liked to make up stories about the people. One day, she wanted to be a writer, so it was good practice.
Sally focused her attention on a couple walking on the street below. She could see a boy with black hair holding hands with a blond-haired girl. Ms. Jackson knew the perfect story to create.
The boy's name was Percy. His mom worked full-time instead of trying to juggle being an author and a candy-shop helper. He was a happy, talkative boy. His dad was a marine professor, which meant the family was supported in terms of money. One day, Percy was sent out to go and get groceries for his family.
The girl was called Annabeth. Her dad taught architecture at the same high school as Percy's father. That was how they knew each other. Her mother was dead, but Annabeth was a strong girl. One day, her father sent her out to get medicine for her younger brother.
The grocery store was crowded, as typical of a New York City public building. How Annabeth and Percy managed to find each other was a mystery. But they finished shopping and headed outside together. They walked past the Empire State Building to Annabeth's apartment, but no one was home. So they both decided to hang out at Percy's house.
Sally knew she was just trying to write a perfect life for her son. But what could it hurt to try? It would never come true. Not in their condition.
She jumped when there was a hand on her shoulder. It was her husband, Poseidon Jackson. He looked happy and apologetic at the same time. "Sally, I just got a job as a marine professor. I'm sorry for leaving you alone, but I got you a job as my assistant."
Sally kissed him, and they walked to her apartment together. When they arrived, Percy was standing at the door with a blond haired girl. They were holding hands.
"Hi, I'm Annabeth Chase, Percy's girlfriend. His dad just started working with my father," the girl, now identified as Annabeth, introduced herself.
Sally hugged her son, his girlfriend, and her husband at the same time. Because apparently, dreams do come true.
