Don't own any of it 'cept for my characters.
Whatchamacallme and i thought this up late one night before Halloween, hope you like it!
EDIT-- I made a few changes, hope it makes reading easier...
Jumping slightly at the knock on the door, I glanced up as a young woman in whites opened the door. "Ex-excuse me? Queen Ka-kasyma?" The woman said hesitantly. "I'm He-herald Angel. Veari t-t-told me I had s-s-some n-n-news of interest for you."
"Come on in and make yourself comfortable, Angel. I was just finishing up anyway." I encouraged, sensing her uncertainty. Angel came in quietly and sat down on the edge of one of the chairs. :Saheli? Can you fill me in, please?: I generally made a point to know all of my Heralds by face at the very least, but Angel was eluding my grasp.
:She's Hark's Chosen and came from a small village near the Forest of Sorrows. She's been a Herald for about Five years. According to Hark, she's shy and has a stuttering problem. She tries to stay in the background, so Veari's been sending her places to try to pull her out of the shell. She just came back from Rethwelan.:
:Thanks, Saheli, you're a lifesaver!: The whole conversation took only seconds. "So, what's this news that Veari thought I should hear?"
"I-it's ab-b-bout Rethwel-l-lan. I—can I just s-sing the s-song I m-made up, pl-please?"
Not wanting to make Angel feel any more uneasy, I consented.
Her voice was very clear and strong and lacked all traces of the stutter she was suffering from when talking. It was hard to imagine that she had been Chosen and didn't go to the Bardic Collegium. The tune was one that was vaguely familiar.
"Hark and Herald Angel sing,
Glory to the new-born King.
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
King and Queen are reconciled.
Joyful all ye Petras rise,
Join the triumph of the spies,
With Heraldic host proclaim,
Kris is born in Rethwelan.
Hark and Herald Angel sing,
Glory to the new-born King!"
The song went on for a little while longer until it had finished.
Blushing, Angel said, "Th-there aren't r-really any s-spies. And K-kris's name is really m-much l-l-longer. The K-king and Qu-queen r-really are rec-c-onc-ciled, t-too."
"Thank you, Angel. I'll be sure to send the King and Queen my greetings and congratulations. Did you come up with the song your self?"
"S-s-sort of. Hark h-helped, s-some." She replied.
"I think that was a good song, I'll have to tell King Ranlornalusto about it. IF that was all…?" Angel nodded quickly, "then you may go."
I watched as Angel left, shaking my head. Talent like that really should be used. :Maybe you should suggest that to Veari. I'm sure Baird would love to get his hands on her. Some one may even get a good idea on how Angel can use both of her Gifts.:
:Maybe. It's a good idea, anyway. It'll have to wait until later, though, because I'm going to be late for the meeting with the Council if I don't hurry. Could you pass the idea on to Veari?:
:Sure thing, Kasy. Don't let the Council get their way too easily—and can you tell Lady Valorna 'hello' for me:
:How do you know Lady Val…:
:Do you think she really liked the song, Hark? Or was she just passing me off?: I asked. People were always passing me off. Sometimes I really hated it, but that's what having a stutter'll do sometimes, make people think you dumber that you really were.
:Of course she really liked it, Ang! Why wouldn't she like it?: Hark countered:let's forget about that for awhile. Hop on.:
Without needing a second invitation, I was on his back and we were tearing through the Field at a break-neck speed.
