A/N - I am currently doing a massive overhaul of this story starting from the ground up. So far only Chapters 1 & 2 have been swapped out, for returning readers it will be better than ever and I will work as fast as possible to revamp the entire story. For the most part things will stay the same however, some things will also change. I hope everyone enjoys the new version. For those who are unaware this story takes place over 100 years after the conclusion of the 1000 Year Blood War arc and however I will attempt to keep things as canon as possible a majority of this story was written before the arc. That being said please forgive any inconsistencies in the following chapters, also since this story takes place so far into the future a majority of the characters we all came to love no longer appear in their old positions. I intend over the course of the story to reintroduce a large number of non original characters and hope to do them justice. As i said a majority of the characters that are staple to the story that do not appear immediately most likely will appear eventually. Please enjoy the story, and I thank you for your patience.

Disclaimer - I own nothing besides my own characters.

POV 3rd Person

"So, have you gotten the results of the written portion of your Captain's Examination yet?" Mashi asked his friend.

It was just past midday, Mashi and Tenshi were walking through the 5th Division gardens. Mashi Yuujin, the younger of the two but not by looks was the Lieutenant of the 9th Division where he served under Captain Shuhei Hisagi. He pushed his mop of brown hair out of his face to reveal bright excitement filled sea green eyes which were further enhanced by the strong sunlight. His best friend of almost a century Tenshi Koukai, was the Lieutenant of the 5th Division where he served under Captain Momo Hinamori. Tenshi had fair skin and dark hair, a stark contrast which was accompanied by pale blue eyes.

"Yeah, I got mine late last night. What about you?"

They paused at a bench by a small koi pond and sat down. Multicolored fish jumped to catch the large bugs that skimmed the surface of the clear water. With their reflections on the mirror like surface Tenshi could see how different they really looked despite being like brothers. Mashi with his sleeveless Shihakusho and his muscular tan skin, and Tenshi with his more lean average build and standard uniform.

"Same here, can you believe I actually passed? I was sure I had failed, what did you get Mr. Genius?" Mashi said sarcastically, but Tenshi just brushed it off.

"Perfect score, did you expect anything else?" No emotion was evident until he laughed. "I wasn't too worried about the written test so much as the combat portions. I have mine scheduled for next Friday. You?"

"Nobody gets a perfect score," Mashi stared with disbelief.

"Well I did, Chixyou wasn't surprised." Chixyou Koukai, was Tenshi's wife and Captain of the 4th Division.

"I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but yeah I have my exam on Sunday. I spoke to Mugen this morning, she has her's on Saturday. I guess fourth time is the charm for her. I admire her dedication, she has retaken the test every year. Me? I'm not that nervous." Mashi looked at Tenshi "You know battle is where I've always shined. If you want I can help you out, we can have a private match beforehand." A mischievous smile played on his lips.

Tenshi let out a small laugh. "That confidence of yours is something else. I might actually take you up on that offer."

Mashi's smile only got wider. "Look at me, whats there not to be confident of?"

"Shouldn't you get back to your own Division and get some work in? We are both off this evening we can meet up and have a match, Chixyou is gonna be late tonight so I would appreciate the company."

With a sigh Mashi stood and started to leave. "I guess you're right, I should head back. I'll see you tonight at your place," he said while walking away with a hand raised in the air.

POV 1st Person, Tenshi

Several hours passed, and Mashi was late. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, even though I went through the trouble of preparing his favorite meal, steamed pork dumplings, which have long since gone cold. Another twenty minutes later and the sound of the front door sliding shut signaled he had finally arrived.

"Its about time, I don't want to hear you complain about cold food!" I shouted from the dining room where I was sitting at the table.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Captain Hisagi was on my case about some paperwork that I might have consistently forgotten to do for the past few months."

Seconds later he was seated across from me hungrily eating the food I had prepared. Within moments he was done and wiping off his face. "Your food is always so good! So when do you wanna do this?"

"Thanks, I swear if it wasn't for me I feel like all you'd ever eat is that instant crap. Lets wait a few minutes, I dont want you to complain when you lose that it's because of a stomach cramp."

His face flushed, looking down he gave his reply "I was gonna say the same thing to you. How's the wife? She still a monster?"

"She isnt a monster" I said with a sigh. "Why cant you two just get along?"

"How am I supposed to know? Maybe she's jealous." He responded with a grin.

"I'm being serious, I don't know why you don't like her, or why she doesn't like you but neither of you are going anywhere so you better get used to each other."

"Gee buddy thanks, I thought you were just gonna drop me when you got married. It's nice to know I still matter." He put his hand on his chest. "Seriously though, who do you think is gonna challenge you for the exam?"

"I've compiled a list of the top three possible scenarios. Upon seeing my Shikai and Bankai Captain Zaraki is most likely to issue a challenge, followed by Captain Kishi because he loves to show off, and Captain Rukia Kuchiki is the third. Captain Kuchiki is always looking for some way to test her skill and set herself apart from her brother. I've developed counter strategies for all of them and estimate a high chance of success against Captains Kuchiki and Kishi," I relayed without hesitation.

"You put way too much thought into it, I was just planning on beating anyone who challenged me. Didn't really put much thought into how. Although if its your wife, I'm just gonna throw in the towel before it starts. I bet she'd love the chance to beat me up a bit." He fell back on the floor to look at the tile patterned ceiling.

"She's not gonna challenge you, and she doesn't want to beat you up. Are you ready to head outside?" I asked getting up.

"Yeah lets get your butt kicking over with." He followed me through the kitchen and out the door that led into the courtyard. The courtyard in my home rested in the center of our estate and was lush with manicured foliage, trees, ponds, hills, and boulders jutting from the ground. I closed the door and stepped into the space. There was a shimmer of energy as walls materialized and disappeared.

"I've already prepared proper barriers and spells. No one will be able to hear, sense, or see what goes on in this area. All damage that the terrain sustains will be repaired with the dissipation of the barrier. All techniques are allowed except for Bankai." We turned to each other, his hand reaching behind his shoulder for his Zanpakuto, and my hand reaching to my waist for mine. We backed away from each other.

"You're gonna need every skill you have just for me to break a sweat. Ready when you are," He said to me.

"Okay, ready, set, fight!"

Dust shot up from the ground as we both drew our weapons and disappeared with speed. We clashed, one hit, two hit, three, four, five, six. Our blades crossed again with us both pushing forward. "Your Shunpo was looking a little slow there, you sure you're feeling alright?"

"Don t get too cocky Mashi" pressure was suddenly gone from my side and to Mashi's surprise my blade was against his neck. He jumped away from me and pointed towards me "Bakudo #61 Rikujokoro!" Six thin and wide sheets of light slammed into my midsection holding me in place. "So we are moving onto Kido are we? Well enough Hado #87 Hyoga Seiran" While still trapped within the binding spell ice began to materialize and swirl around me destroying Mashi's spell and shooting towards him.

Using Shunpo he jumped backwards and help his Zanpakuto in front of him. "Negate Enerugii!" Mashi's blade widened becoming more broad and bladed on both sides, with a burning sound runic symbols carved themselves on either side of the blade and my icy spell which was about to hit him instead divided in two and crashed into the barrier behind him. "Not bad Tenshi, I wasn't expecting you to use a high powered spell like Hyoga Seiran, but as you know Kido is useless against me!" He screamed rushing towards me.

I brought by blade up to block his strike and he was surprised to find I had already released my Zanpakuto, Undou No Chikara, the short edge-less metal rod I called a Shikai. Using its ability I absorbed all the Kinetic Force behind his strike leaving it as nothing more than mere pressure. "Once you achieve Bankai you can release your Zanpakuto without calling out to it, come on you know that." Using a little of the Kinetic Energy I have stored up over the past eight decades I pushed against him and he went flying through a boulder bouncing against the barrier.

I waited for him to get up and when he didn't I got a little panicked. "Shit, Mashi I didn't mean to use that much." I ran over to him to find him unconscious and with his Zanpakuto sealed again. I looked him over and found a few small wounds which I quickly healed as my spacial repair spell began to take effect and the barrier around the courtyard lowered.

A few moments later he began to rouse and groaned a bit. "Damn, how much did you hit me with?" He rubbed his head and sat up.

"Roughly about forty-five Lieutenant level sword strikes," I grinned sheepishly "I'm sorry I got a bit carried away."

Mashi hopped to his feet and put Enerugii back in her sheath, "No worries, you caught me off guard with the quick release. I'm a bit sore, you mind if I spend the night? When will Chixyou be home?"

"She won't be back till morning, so yeah you can stay. Take your usual room, it's already well past 10 o'clock and we have Lieutenants meeting at 7 so lets get washed up and get some sleep." I turned walking back to the door before pausing and turning around with a smile

"You're probably gonna have a headache in the morning."

"Shut up" he blushed. I patted him on the head which only caused his blush to grow darker and walked inside heading towards my room. "Night" I heard from behind me.

"Goodnight Mashi, try not to trash the place." I responded putting my hand in the air.
