A magic machine
It was a clear summer day, and Yotsuba was playing outside with some kids from the neighborhood. She was her usual energetic and happy self, smiling brightly and laughing because she won most of the tag-and-hide games with her small size. Time always flies when one is having fun, and before the kids new it, it was 6 o' clock and they were getting hungry. So, they decided to return home for dinner.
Yotsuba slammed open the front door of her house and proclaimed "I am hooooome!", waving and with a huge smile on her face. She then looked at daddy and asked "Daddy, what are we eating today?", to which he answered "Tonkatsu with curry!". After proclaiming "Aww! That's so nice! Yotsuba loves Tonkatsu!", the energetic 5 year old happily walked to the dinner table and set herself down in preparation for dinner. When the Tonkatsu came, she gulped it down happily, satisfiedly patting herself on her belly after she was done. "Daddy, my tummy is al full now!".
After doing the dishes, dad asked Yotsuba to come to his room. He told her he wanted to give her a belated present for her fifth birthday. "Yotsuba loves getting presents!" the young girl said, and she followed her father to his room. Curious at what she would find inside, she opened the door.
As soon as they entered dad's room, Yotsuba wondered at the strange buzzing sound that seemed to come from a large device on the table which stood next to the window. Yotsuba stared at the device for a short time, and then ran towards it. "Daddie, what is this strange noise? It seems to be coming from this apparatus. This must be a magical device? Where did you get it, daddy? Is there a magic store nearby? I wanna see it! :D "
Daddy smiled at Yotsuba and said "No Yotsuba-chan, this is no magic. This is a computer, a complicated device that people use these days to access the internet. That way you can talk with people from all over the world!". Yotsuba got excited and sat down behind the pc, eager to try out this mysterious thing called the "internet". "Daddy, can we send each other presents, too? I wanna send presents to everyone on this played!" she said, smiling. "No, Yotsuba, that's impossible, because this device works by sending zeroes and ones to other similar devices trough a sort of tubes." Daddy said. Yotsuba wondered "those tubes have to be very small then that presents can't fit trough them. They should make them bigger!" she proclaimed, jumping up as if she'd just had the smartest idea ever.
Yotsuba, eager to try out this "internet", powered on the computer and sat down on the chair again. Her big eyes got even bigger when she saw a strange blue glow on the screen and the device made a welcome sound. "Wooooww! It's so nice! It even says hello to you! Hello mister computer!" Yotsuba waved at the device, only to continue harder when she didn't get a response. After the computer had finished starting up, father told Yotsuba that she had to start the webbrowser by double clicking on it on the screen, and gave her the mouse. Yotsuba enthousiastically took the mouse and rammed it at the screen too times on the firefox icon, nearly breaking the monitor. She then looked at dad with sad eyes, saying "Daddy, why doesn't it work? Is it broken? :'( ". Her father laughed and opened firefox her. Yotsuba now looked more happy than ever before, as she was about to jump into this new world of fun known as the net. Where she would make many friends all over the world! (Or so she hoped, anyway.)
