Valentine's Day.
A girl's favorite holiday.
Oh, the horror!
Most people were superstitious about Friday the 13th, but Sasuke had found that most of his bad luck cropped up on February the 14th, Valentine's Day. The worst day of the year.
Usually he spent the day in hiding. In his house, in the alleys…sometime's he went so far as to create a clone and send him to school so he wouldn't have to go. But eventually, someone tried to touch him.
Iruka-sensei had told him that if he played hooky one more time on that dreaded day of the year, he wouldn't be allowed to take the exam to become a ninja. He would waste another year learning the same old stuff.
Last year, it was easy to blow past that. After all, it had fallen on a Sunday. But this year was different. It was Monday.
He'd almost stayed out all night in the snow so that he might catch something and everyone would stay the heck away. Almost.
So there he stood, pressed against the wall and silently peering into the classroom. The fangirls stood at the ready, their "I 3 YOU SASUKE!" T-shirts on and their chocolate displayed in open hands. They were guarding the door. He couldn't get in without them jumping him, and who knew what would happen then? Torn clothes, messed-up hair, probably quite a few scratches and lipstick marks. No, he couldn't.
That's when he heard a quiet voice from behind him.
"S-sasuke-kun?"
He turned very slowly to face his doom.
Oh, it was Hinata. Okay then.
"Wh-why are y-you hiding?" she whispered.
"Fangirls."
"O-oh…" she was about to walk past him into the room when a brilliant idea popped into his head.
He jumped out after her and grabbed her hand, walking in with her. Ignoring the shocked look on her face.
When he walked in the fangirls all screeched: "SASU—what are you doing, Hinata?!"
"She's my girlfriend," Sasuke explained, quite plainly, which—of course—cause all the girls in the classroom to faint. Including Hinata.
--
Hinata woke up in the infirmary—she being to only one who hadn't faked her fainting—to see Sasuke sitting next to her.
"Thanks," he said coolly. Then got up.
"W-wait!"
Sasuke turned back to her.
"Wh-why?"
"I would have been torn to shreds by the fangirls."
"O-oh," she replied. "Okay."
Hinata got out of bed and began to walk away. Then she turned back around.
"S-sasuke-kun, h-here," she threw him a small object and then started to run from the room.
It was chocolate.
He caught her wrist. "Why?"
"I-I g-give th-them to the wh-whole class, b-but you're n-never there…"
He released her to stare at the girl, then in one swift movement brought his head down to her level and kissed her.
He turned and walked away. "Thanks," he said smirking and leaving a dumbstruck Hinata in his wake.
Maybe Valentine's Day wasn't so bad after all.
