Prologue
EPOV
I chuckled as I looked through the peep hole of the front door. Our nephew, Riley was buzzing with impatience. Literally. His whole body vibrated, and he bounced on the balls of his feet, eyes alight, bottom lip between his teeth; a trait he had picked up from Bella, my love.
Rosalie, my sister-in-law and Riley's Mother, rolled her eyes as his excitement infected his twin sister Bree.
I studied them for a few seconds longer; Riley and Bree bobbing in synchronization; Rosalie, looking tired and drawn after giving birth to her third child just two months ago; and said baby fidgeting in the baby carrier attached to his Mother's front.
I finally gave in and swung open the door.
"Uncle Edward!" exclaimed the twins in unison.
"Hey guys," I leaned down to hug them. I basked in the moment; after not seeing them in so long, I took as much comfort in their little arms as I could. Too soon though, they pulled away and ran down the hall, probably to fight over the TV remote. What they wouldn't expect, would be their Aunt Alice and Uncle Jasper lounging in the sitting room whilst their daughter Tia played with her Barbie dolls. The excited squeals echoing through the house told me they didn't stay clueless for long.
I took the overflowing bags from Rosalie and ushered her through to sit down and relax with the others.
I set down the new groceries and took a step back to admire my family. It couldn't get much better than this-of course with the exception of Bella and I having a child of our own; and Bella actually being here to share this moment with me.
Wishes aside, I couldn't ask for anything more. How is it possible that I, Edward 'freak of nature' Cullen, ended up with the perfect life?
"Where's Bella?" Rosalie's question brought me out of my reverie and I pushed the thoughts from my past into a draw at the back of my mind.
"She's running late today. She promised the kids in her class that she'd stay there until their painting dried off," I shook my head and smiled a little, as Rose muttered,
"She's too soft,"
I played with my nephews and nieces, and we laughed for what seemed like hours on end.
That is, until we received the phone call that brought my world crashing right down. The call that turned the blood running through my veins ice cold.
"We've got your wife…And her Mother…"
