This fic was actually written for my cat's birthday. He's two on the 18th. Kitteh love. Here's the fic:

The crescent moon was high in the sky, shining part of its light on a small forest. One cat prowled the forest, searching desperately for any sign of life. He was a lucky cat, because in this part of the United States, there wasn't much competition got hunting. In fact, in this forest existed only two cats that competed for the mice and rabbits: Sunny and Hunter.

Sunny was an elderly cat of thirteen years, and orange tabby tom, with a slight peach-like coloring to his fur. He lived with a pair of old Twolegs who let him go outside whenever it pleased him. However, since Sunny was such an elderly cat, he had decided to pass on his knowledge to his young apprentice, Hunter.

Hunter lived in the next house, a two-year-old as of recent. He was a dark brown mackerel tabby with sea-green eyes, who lived with a family of four Twolegs. They nearly never let him out, and when they did, it was only to a small, fenced-in porch. However, they knew nothing about Hunter's night activities. Hunter was fairly young, and enjoyed being Sunny's apprentice, even if it did mean that the old cat was bad-tempered and demanding.

"Tonight, we're only catching simple mice," Sunny began his lesson. He flicked his tail to a small mouse that was lounging around beside the fallen tree. Hunter found it odd that there would be mice so near to his Twolegs' home, but he had to trust Sunny and take advantage of the fact that there were mice in reach of his paws.

Instantly, Hunter sprang into hunting position, the one Sunny had taught him only a few moons ago, and slowly began to creep forward.

"Remember-" Sunny began.

"Yes, I know!" Hunter snapped impatiently. "A mouse feels you, a rabbit hears you!"

"Good!" Sunny meowed. "Now put that knowledge to good use and step lightly!"

"I'm stepping as lightly as I can!" complained Hunter.

"Then step lighter, like this," Sunny snapped. He crept forward, light on his paws. Just as he had taught Hunter, Sunny pounced on the mouse, killing it quickly with a short death blow.

"See?"

"Yes, Sunny."

"Now bring down that bird."

The bird Sunny had pointed at was a bright red bird, flying low. If Hunter could get the timing right, he could bring down the most delicious bird of all. Already, the brown tabby's mouth was watering. Hunter slowly crept forward until the bird was in his reach. And there it was, getting closer and closer so Hunter could grab it. At the last moment, Hunter jumped up and-

Hunter's outstretched claws were caught in the soft bed sheets. He grappled with the soft pink blanket for a moment before letting out a loud mew for help. Just as the Twolegs were supposed to do, two Twolegs came running and gently untangled Hunter's claws. As soon as his claws were untangled, Hunter let out a purr of gratitude.

Hunter leapt down from the tall bed gracefully, and padded with his tail up down one flight of stairs, then down another flight of stairs. The smell of carpets and his own scent greeted the young kittypet as he got to the last step. Hunter loved the basement of the big house. It wasn't completely underground, so when Hunter leapt onto his platform, he could see into the woods. This was precisely what Hunter did this morning.

Hunter padded up the cat-sized steps to the platform. The platform was a carpeted space level with the ground outside. Hunter loved to curl up by the platform and look out into the woods, often watching the wildlife that was free to roam the forest. As Hunter curled up on the platform this morning, he thought about the dream he had had, about catching the red bird. Secretly, Hunter envied Sunny, who was free to hunt as he pleased. If only there was a way Hunter could be free...

Yeah, it was a bit short. Sorry.
