"K-Karkat?"

"Nhf-Fuckin' what the hell?"

Karkat's eyes shot open as he sat up rubbing his eyes. His eyes wandered over to the clock.

2:00 a.m

"Jegus its fucking two in the morning ass face, couldn't you fucking-" he looked over at the door way and saw a teary eyed Nepeta standing in his door way. He sighed and sat up a little more.

"Nepeta…what's wrong?"

Nepeta looked down, wiping her eyes, she tackled him into a hug and started to sob in his chest. Not knowing what to really do, Karkat lazily wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin on the top of her head.

"Hey…come on now…shhhhh…." He gently started to rub small circles in her back while she sobbed.

"K-Karkat…your…s-safe."

"Safe?"

"I…I…"

Karkat kissed the top of her head and pulled her close.

"Shhhh…I'm fine…see?" he gently whispered in his matesprites ear. She nuzzled deep into his chest.

"Come on, tell me what happened." Karkat said kissing the side of her head.

"I…I had a n-night terror again…" Nepeta managed to hiss out under her shaken breath.

Karkat sighed and pulled her onto the bed and began to rock her back and forth. Nepeta just clung to him and sobbed into his shirt.

"Fuck Nepeta, this has been the fourth time this week, holy shit."

Nepeta let go of him and wiped her red, puffy, teared up eyes. But she continued to let her matesprite hold her. She leaned herself on him and sighed.

"Do you…do you wanna talk about it?" Karkat said petting her hair. "I mean talking about it helps."

Nepeta sat up and nodded, still in his lap.

"Me…me and mew…we were dancing…in a ballroom…and everyone was there. We were all laughing and having such a good time."

"Well that doesn't sound too bad."

"But then…then mew started to cry…cry blood. Red…blood"

Karkat swallowed and looked at her nervously.

"Then….everyone looked at us and they all started to g-grab mew and drag mew away. Then…they…t-they started to tear off your flesh with their t-teeth…until you were n-nothing but…you know. I-I tried to reach your for you but…it was too late…Equius had picked you up…and s-snapped your n-neck."

Karkat's eyes grew in shock. He stared down at her with a look of fear and worry. He pulled her into a hug and held her.

"But the worst p-part of it all…"

She gripped his shirt

"I wasn't able to protect you…"

"No…Nepeta, shhhhhh…"

"I'm so…I'm so we-"

"NO YOUR FUCKING NOT."

Nepeta looked up at him and bit her lip. Karkat sighed and pulled her close, mumbling some mad gibberish into her hair.

"K-karkitty?"

"Hm?"

"Can…can I stay in here with mew fur tonight?….Please?"

Karkat nodded and scooted over, giving her room to cuddle with him. She lay down on the bed with him and snuggled into his chest, listening to his heart beat. Karkat pulled up the blankets and pulled Nepeta close.

"I'm right here alright?" He mumbled in her ear. "I'm alive and no one's gonna hurt me or you."

Nepeta nodded and nuzzled herself further into his chest, finally falling asleep again.
