"People don't behave the way they should; they behave the way they do."

I see a caricature of myself - my reflection in the driver's side window - and wonder if that is how the world sees me - doe-eyed - with confusion frowning a small mouth.

In reality, I am … very naïve – although in all appearance, I seem knowledgeable, but maybe that's just because I pretend to be something I will never be.

I wish sometimes that I didn't have to impress anybody.

The glass is cool against the backs of my fingertips as I reach out - struggle - to find comfort in the dim mirror image of myself.

Red lights revert to green, and the image is gone - lost among flashing headlights and blaring horns. Accelerators give way beneath feet clad in ballet slippers, and I wonder if they've been laughing at me all along.
