The next day Naruto saw the boy again. Still sitting alone in the corner. He looked around to see two older kids, Temari and Kankuro, whispering behind their hands and motioning to one of them said anything to him could see a resembalance between the older boy and Gaara and supposed that he was Gaara's older brother. The two older kids left the gym without saying a word to Gaara. Naruto followed behind them.
The next day Naruto didn't see Gaara in the Gym. He spent his whole day wondering what had happened to the red head in the corner.
Near the end of the day the announcements were made. "Dear students, we are sad to say we lost a member of our school last night. Gaara of the desert committed suicide." Naruto looked around to see if anyone else was effected by the news. He was horrified to find that no one was. Not even Gaara's own brother. He didn't even know Gaara and this news hit close to his heart.
After school Naruto met with his sensei Kakashi outside of the school. "Why would someone do that Kakashi?" Naruto asked. "Naruto, I think we spend our whole lives striving to be loved by all around us. And some people have to work harder than others but never achieve the love they seek," Kakashi replied.
Naruto walked home that night wishing that he had been the one to speak up. The one to befriend the broken hearted boy in the corner. The boy that was so much like him. Naruto himself had no friends until high school. Gaara was lonely much longer than this. His own brother and sister didn't acknowldge his exsitance. Suddenly an idea hit him.
He went home and got out everything he needed to make a cake. He made a big chocolate cake with "I'm so sorry about your loss. R.I.P Gaara," written on it. He called his best friend Sasuke and got directions to Gaara's house.
The house was a big white house, one with a picket fence around it. Your average Suburban house. He opened the little gate and walked up to the house. He stood in shock for a minute and then rang the doorbell. "I got it!" he heard Kankuro yell. The door was flung open and Kankuro looked at Naruto for a minute and then saw the cake. "Come in Naruto," he said. Naruto stepped and Kankuro led him to the kitchen. "Dad, this is Naruto Uzamaki, he's in my home room," Kankuro said. "Nice to meet you Naruto. I'm guessing the loss of my younger son has brought you here," Gaara's father said. Naruto nodded, "I baked a cake." Temari took the cake from Naruto and sat it on the counter. "We're very upset about the loss of Gaara," their father said. Naruto glanced around. They didn't look upset. In fact, Kankuro looked downright happy. "Um, I have to go," Naruto said. He rushed out of their house.
When Naruto got home, he went to his room and cried. How could someone be happy that their younger brother died? How could you just carry out your life like it was nothing? What was wrong with people?
Every day after the accident Naruto walked into the gym and almost expected to see Gaara in the corner. But he realized, some things never change.
