Kurt didn't understand how things started to go wrong. The summer with Blaine had been simply incredible. He charmed everyone each time he was over at the house and spent quality time watching Reds games with Burt, cooking with Carole, or just plain hanging out with Finn. Even the double dates they went on, the two were extremely friendly (after the awkwardness of the first one, when Rachel talked about how lovely it was that she was out with both her boyfriend and her ex).

Then Blaine came to McKinley, and for some reason, Finn wasn't happy about it. There were little arguments in the choir room and some quick exits to Puck's house when Blaine was over. Today was possibly the worst. Even after Kurt returned home from West Side Story rehearsal, he found his stepbrother on the couch. Doing homework. Well that was a change of pace.

"Do you mind telling me what's going on, Finn?"

Finn looked up from his Trigonometry book. "What do you mean what's going on?" he asked.

"This vendetta you have against my boyfriend," Kurt replied.

"Kurt, I'm sorry, but when has Blaine ever worn a bandanna? He dresses like he's straight out of one of those black and white movies you guys watch every weekend."

Kurt sighed. "Where did you even get that from? I mean why are you so opposed to him now? I thought you two became friends?"

"We were. I mean, we are friends, yeah. He's your boyfriend, and he's a cool guy."

"Then what's been with the attitude you've been giving him?"

Finn suddenly understood what Kurt was talking about. "Okay. How would you feel if you had a starring role in a play, and all of a sudden, someone who was just cast last week for the chorus was so good that they decided to make him the lead instead?"

"Not quite the best analogy, seeing as Blaine is Tony and I'm not."

"But you see where I'm coming from," Finn continued on. "Ever since we started, Rachel and I have been the leaders of the club. Now Blaine's here, and he wants to be the star, and he has all these ideas from Dalton, and he's trying to take my place."

"Wait, you think he's trying to take your place?"

"Yeah. And it's not cool, because I've been here two years longer than he has, and he's only a junior. But he doesn't get it. He hasn't earned his place yet."

Kurt was incredulous. "You think Blaine is doing this for attention? Really?"

"Yeah, isn't he? I mean, that's why he had all the solos for the Warblers, right?"

"No, Finn. He didn't ask for all the solos, he earned them. A lot of his ideas he brought up to the Warblers' council were shot down before he could explain them. And he doesn't do all of this to get attention. He does it because he likes to make people happy."

"Really?"

"Really," Kurt said. "He lives to please everyone, even if it doesn't work out every time."

Finn laughed. "Name one time when it didn't?"

"Have I ever told you about the Gap Attack?"

"No, but Rachel did. Ouch."

"Exactly. Also, he doesn't succeed as much when it comes to making his parents happy." That earned a surprised look from Finn. "He feels like he's always trying to make it up to them for when he came out and when he ended up in the hospital. They accept him, but it's hard. They haven't embraced it the way you did."

"Whoa. Now I feel bad for him. Tell you what, invite him over after dinner and I'll apologize to him," Finn said.

Kurt nodded and smiled. "Definitely."
