Sand- A Niley One-shot

The story is always the same. When the clock strikes twelve, Cinderella runs away; however, Prince Charming doesn't always get her back. Niley. AU-ish.

They stared at the stars; her head resting on his shoulder. "Tonight is magical" she whispered.

"Yeah" he agreed. "Because I have you."

She giggled. "Oh, how you make me blush!"

"I think rosy red is a very nice shade on you" he answered, kissing her lips gently. He pulled away, and a cheesy grin made its way across his face. He tucked a strand of her curly, auburn hair behind her ear.

She smiled. "I'm gonna miss this." She tucked her knees up so that she could rest her chin on them.

"Do you have to leave?" he begged.

"Yes" she sighed, her smile dropping.

"Why?" he whispered. "Why can't this last forever?"

"Because forever is a really long time" she answered in the same tone.

"But I-" he was cut off by the clock's bell ringing. He looked at her; his eyes pleading with her to stay. His vision blurred from his tears.

She inhaled sharply. She stood up and kissed his cheek before running off into the moonlight' leaving him there to stare and long for her.

He watched her while his fingers fiddled with the ring in his pocket. He opened his mouth, wanting to call out to her, but he found that his voice had left him. He bowed his head and took out the ring from his pocket.

He walked over to the bridge and stared at his reflection in the water of the creek. A tear slid off his face and dripped into the water. He took one last look at the ring before flinging it over the rail of the bridge. She was gone; and she wasn't coming back.

Like sand, she had slipped through his fingers. The story is always the same. When the clock strikes twelve, Cinderella runs away; however, Prince Charming doesn't always get her back.

So, this was dedicated to all the guys out there who don't know what they got. I'm sorry it was so short, I really didn't know how to make it longer. I guess it's more of a drabble than an actual one-shot. A lot of things have been left unexplained, but, I kind of like it like that.

My fingers are crossed that you enjoyed so, please review!

Love,
