A/N This is my first shot at fiction, excepting of course resume padding. This is a one shot of the opening scene for season 5 that Milmar will never write. I attribute this to their superior talent and class.

Variation on The Morning After

It is approaching 11 AM as Alexis exits the elevator and approaches the front door to the loft. She unlocks the door and enters, hopping to find her father in the kitchen preparing brunch. The long night of partying and the late morning wake up has left her with a grumbling stomach. However, what greets her is silence.

From the kitchen she can look accross the living room and through the open door into the study. Her father is not at his desk. Last night he had boasted of the large number of video games at his disposal. Thinking that he had played late into the night to combat loneliness, she decides to check and see if he is still sleeping.

She quietly walks past the front door and stops at the entrance to his bedroom. She lightly taps on the door and calls his name. Hearing no response, she slowly eases the door open and peeks inside. The curtains hold back the daylight but she can dimly make out a form under the covers. There must have been a shaft of light earlier since the form is headless - or more accurately - there is a pillow ccoverings the spot where the head would be.

She thinks of all the times that hat she intended to sleep in but her father would wake her so they could play or go on some adventure punctuated with the phrase "come on it'll be fun". The opportunity for payback is too great to ignore. She opens the door completely and takes a step back. Accelerating with three quick strides, she leaps into the air and shouts "Dad, Dad, Dad".

The leap was executed perfectly. She has aimed for the open spot on the mattress but as she comes in for the landing she notices that the shape under the blanket lacks the bulk to be her father. There is nothing she can do but make sure she doesn't actually hit the other body. The effects of the impact go beyond her expectations. The noise awakens the occupant of the bed. Had the target been her father, the force of the landing would have done little more than jostle him. Instead she sees the slim form of a woman being bounced out of the bed and onto the floor.

Mortified, Alexis is consoled only by the thought that it will be unlikely that she will ever meet the "bimbo-du-jour" again. That is shattered as her father emerges from his bathroom shouting "Alexis"; the woman pulls herself up from the floor with a wild look on her face and the name "Castle" spoken harshly.

Alexis adds to the chaos by squeaking "Detective Beckett". In the few seconds of silence that follow, she is able to roll off the bed, and run out of the bedroom and up the stairs to her room. Confused, Beckett looks up to Castle and says "What just happened"?

"Well", he responds, " we no longer have to decide how to tell her about us. However, I can't tell yet if she is for or against us as a couple."

"Not funny, Rick"

"Please, it's a little funny and look on the bright side. At least we were clothed"
