Where this came from: I was doing my Composition homework and one of the essays we had to read was about the chemicals that make people feel how they feel about love. Wouldn't Germany just jump at the chance to have that explain everything?! It's so logical. XD Too bad Italy's not.

I don't own Hetalia. *shrugs*

Germany would have never guessed he would find the answers he searched so hard for in a science book.

He had searched through countless relationship books, numerous how-to books, and many books he was ashamed to talk about, and here it was: the answer to his problem.

It explained love.

Germany read the book, read it again, and then, just to make sure he was not imagining those words, read it a third time.

The data was still there.

Finally! FINALLY! Something solid to explain these feelings!

Germany hugged the book to his chest and grinned. A heavy, confusing burden: gone. He could not wait to tell Italy!

~.~.~

Italy arrived at Germany's house. Humming to himself, he rang the door bell and called out, "Germany!~ Ve~"

Germany opened the door and smiled. "Italy."

The smaller country gave him a hug which, much to his surprise, Germany hugged back.

"I'm glad to see you Italy. Come in, I need to talk to you."

The two sat on an old decorated couch in the living room. The TV was off and Germany's dogs where not present.

Germany took Italy's small hands in his large hands. Italy looked up in shock. "Ve~?"

"Italy. It all makes sense now."

"What does, Germany?"

"Everything! It's all chemical!"

"I…I don't understand…ve…"

With a reassuring nod, Germany looked Italy right in the eyes. "Love is chemical. The reason you make me so nervous. The nervousness, the sweating, the worry, the- everything! It's all chemicals! Chemicals tell our bodies how to react. Why we enjoy being around each others? It's phenylethylamine! Why do we stay together? Endorphins!" There were even chemicals for…deeper relations too. This explanation made everything okay. He looked at Italy and felt what he now knew as a rush of endorphins. A kiss. He wanted to kiss Italy.

Italy gave him a blank stare. "Ve~…"

Germany sighed and rubbed a hand across Italy's cheek. "I guess you didn't understand any of that, huh?" He leaned in, "Italy…"

"But…"

Germany's nose nuzzled at the base of Italy's neck, "Hm…?"

"Phenylethylamine is for attraction. Not for the first impression."

Germany felt his pulse quicken. What…? What did Italy just…?

"Attraction is part two. Picking a potential significant other out is the first step. That has nothing to do with chemicals."

Germany backed away and stared wide eyed. "The first…step…."

"E-everything else does do with chemicals though!" Italy gave a shaky laugh.

Germany's hands started shaking. Back at square one… And just when he thought he had his loving, little Italian figured out…

Italy gave him a kiss on the cheek. "It's okay, ve~? No one really knows what brings two people together initially. It's just the togetherness that matters."

...the Italian always surprised him.

Random drabble is random.

Here's the details, explained in the essay:

1. Imprinting: Initial reactions. No one knows the exact factors for this (The flaw in Germany's ideas here)

2. Attraction: Brain gets phenylethylamine. Feelings of Euphoria and Elation.

3. Attachment: Endorphins into brain. Sense of security, peace, calm, ect.

4. "Cuddle Chemical": Oxytocin...*cough* "those feelings" during "that"

Just FYI. Like I said, I got this idea doing homework and couldn't stop til I typed it out.

If you have a moment, a review would be nice. ^_^
