Ferris Wheel Ride
An Ace Attorney Fanfic
By Saitou Miharu
Apollo Justice approached the platform slowly, his hands shaking slightly, and swallowed as he came close to it. He raised a hand and traced the side gently.
"I still can't believe we found Machi and Mr. LeTouse up there." Trucy whispered.
"Yeah." Apollo stared up at the top of the tall platform with obvious disdain. "I used to not like high places. Now I hate them."
"It's not like it would have been nicer if we found a dead body closer to the ground." she said with a small smile. After a pause she added, "Though that reminds me. Daddy's bad with heights, too." She wondered vaguely if it had something to do with the burning bridge her daddy had run across when he was still a lawyer.
"Huh, no kidding."
"He took me on a ferris wheel ride a while ago, you know!" she said happily.
Apollo wondered what that had been like.
"Daddy, look!" eight-year-old Trucy exclaimed in amazement. "A ferris wheel!"
Phoenix smiled; his daughter could be entrancingly innocent when she wanted to be. "Are you going to ride it?" he asked her with a grin.
"Not just me! You're coming too!"
The ex-lawyer felt the color drain from his face. "Uh, you go ahead, I'll stay--"
"Come on, Daddy!" Before he could do anything about it, Trucy grabbed the sleeve of his jacket, and pulled him into one of the ferris wheel cars. The door was closed quickly behind them, and as the car rose slowly into the sky, Phoenix could feel his mouth growing salty. Trucy slid over to the other end of the bench and stared out the window. "Wow! Everything's so small! Come look, Daddy!"
No reply.
"Daddy?" Trucy whirled around; Phoenix sat on the opposite side of the bench, clutching his knees, murmuring, "Objection... objection... objection... objection..."
Apollo scratched the back of his head absentmindedly. Poor guy.
