Meditations by the Fire

Disclaimer: Pokemon belongs to a lot of people who have a lot of money and power, both here in America and abroad. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. No one should get bent out of shape; I'm just borrowing these guys for a while. All apologies also to any pop culture references warped. I'm just borrowing them, too. And finally, I apologize profusely to Shakespeare for warping his poetic form for my own twisted purposes.

Prelude: And now I ruin poetry! My first published (heck, even first completed) poem, featuring Eldershipping of course. Blackjack and Arizima have both asked what the deal is with my setting everything I write in winter. Well, I still don't know, but somewhere between that question and Delia's red hair came this fairly straightforward pseudo-Shakespearian sonnet. For Pikablu (our Poet Laureate Prima) and Kissin (Pikablu's cousin and our Poet Laureate Secunda), for making me remember that he is Poetic Sam, after all. Intelligent comments always appreciated! (Pointing out that it's trite and cliche is doing nothing but stating the obvious, though, so don't do that. ^_~)

Meditations by the Fire

By Latonya Wright

I gaze upon the fire spilling 'cross my bed tonight,

The flaming red-gold tresses that pleasure me so much.

Tamed by you, beloved, the flames cause me no fright--

--instead, they stir desire; let them melt me at their touch.

My body carries winter upon nearly every part,

The snow-capped peak, the craggy face, the limbs wearied and old.

Though the bitterness of winter's chill does not reach to the heart,

The sting of my years' icicles have left emotions cold.

But you ignited me, summer's keeper of the blaze.

The brilliant smile, the lovely form, the heat of youth's embrace,

And the ardor of your spirit comes to light within your gaze--

The gaze you turn upon me, with love shining from your face.

Though I carry still the chill of Time's dark touch, unkind to me,

The love from you, sweet flower child, warms me and sets me free.

Postlude: Ah, fudge. I'm no poet and that's obvious. O_o;;;; I better take some lessons from Pikablu and Kissin. Comment anyway.
