Chapter One: The First Claw
A group of small wolfs walked through the woods about two mice in their jaws. They entered a clearing in the middle of the woods. While two of the wolfs left, a lone black wolf continued towards a mossy tree. Inside of the tree there was a brown wolf surrounded in shadows, "Sir, the food source in the woods is lingering and we were not able to find enough food for this moon cycle." The brown wolf nodded, "What food did you find?" The hunter paused, "We were able to catch a few mice, Sir." The brown wolf got up and walked towards the hunter, "That is quite disappointing, it won't last us nearly as long as I told you we would need it, but I understand. Still, where are we going to get enough foo for the pack?" The hunter looked perplexed, "I'm not-" suddenly the other wolf charged towards them, teeth bared. The hunter scrambled to their paws but the brown jaws were clamped around their throat. The hunter thrashed for a few seconds before the spark in the eyes of the wolf died. "There we go, there is some more food." The dark wolf laughed, licking the blood off his fangs. He called for another wolf a tiny white wolf approached. "Yes sir?..." she asked bowing her head. The brown wolf raised her head so he could see the fear in her murky green eyes. "Tell the alpha of star clan we need to have a little chat." The wolf bounded away as the wolf padded back to his tree. He would need to pick his warriors soon.
Arch and Nusi looked out and there pups who were playing in the snow. Arch got up and shook his gray fur preparing for his meeting with the river clan. Nusi got up looking up at Arch, "Are you sure you want to meet with Carri?" Said Nusi, "He hasn't called a meeting with any clan for years, and why would they call it with us?" Arch laughed gently and nuzzled her to calm her. "We are the closest and you know Carri isn't very social. He also agreed to come to fair grounds between our territory." Nusi bit her tongue wanting to argue but the words got stuck in her throat. He smiled at her, knowing he had won and went over to play with the pups, but Nusi sat there, still feeling unsure. She sat on the dirt, looking around for something to stick out but all she could see was her mate playing around with her pups. She finally lost her tension and lay down on the cool dirt. Nusi stood and footsteps followed, only they didn't belong to her. She lifted her head and saw Carri and five other wolfs. "Carri, you are early, along with that this wasn't the place I told your messager where we would meet." Said Arch, Carri laugh lowly, "Well, silly me. I guess I caught you at a bad time though. Didn't I?" Arch got up and nudged the pups to go behind him. "Well, while we are here, let's discuss the reason I wanted this in the first place. Our food source is disappearing. We believe they have been heading towards your territory. We prepose that you give us more of your land." My ears twitched as I heard one of my younger pups get up and start walking around. "Why would we give you our territory, and even if we did what would we get in return?" I looked around for my pup but he had disappeared. "Well we could continue to look be in peace with eachother or..." I heard a faint whine and looked towards one of the five wolfs next to Carri. I let out a startled bark as I saw one of the wolfs with my pup in their jaws. "Carri!" growled Arch. "You can't do this!" Carri smiled, "Well, you can give us your what we asked for." The pup started whining again and blood started trickling down his fur. "Or you could give us what we want." Arch froze for a second and then I heard a snap. I screamed as I saw my pup hit the ground with their neck snapped. That triggered the battle and the wolfs from Cari's pack attacked us. "Run!" Yelled Arch, "Take the pups!" Suddenly two wolfs attacked him and he started attacking back. Three of the other wolfs chased my pups, I ran to attack, but they had all scattered. I heard a nother whine. I blinked away tears as I raced after two pups to help them from a large gray wolf. I tackled her to the ground and scratched and bit them, trying to destroy them. I was about to pin them to the ground when I was caught of gard by hearing my pups that I were trying to protect yelp. The gray she-wolf took the chance to throw me to the ground and go kill the two pups with another wolf. Tears continued to flow as I ran, I ducked behind a tree trunk, trying to find a hiding pup. I heard Carri laugh somewhere out of sight. "You fool, you never were strong enough to beat me, now you will finally get time to reflect on your disitions." I heard a growl get cut off, that had came from Arch, along with a tear sound, soon after. I shivered and whined when I noticed a trembling bush. I crept over and felt one of my pups shivering like mad. I picked him up and heard a growl behind me. I had never run so fast in my life. I pushed past the wolfs and ran through our forest. I ran and ran, hearing the Carri's wolfs howl to celebrate their victory only made me run faster. In my mind thoughts raced. My mate and almost all my pups were dead, the leader of star clan was dead! Carri was killing our pack... I ran, heading for the forest. I headed towards the river, where the rest of the clan lived. I took a small break, I was close to the pack, I could smell them from here. I laid my pup on the ground, his eyes were closed. My heart skipped a beat, no not my only pup, not the last member of my family. The only one I could save... I liked him madly, still nothing. My eyes watered, giving up. I got and blinked away my tears. I heard a tiny cough. "Mom, what happened? What happened to Father?" He asked, standing shakily and shaking his rusted coloured fur. My heart felt heavy, I couldn't tell him, not yet. "I will tell you in due time, Urchin, for now we are trying to get back to the pack." I allowed him to walk for a bit, but I stayed sharp knowing that Carri's wolfs could still attack. Finally we got back to the pack, I walked in, many wolfs playing and discussing things. One of wolfs that Arch would confide in saw me. "Nusi! How did the meeting go? Where is Ar- WHAT HAPPENED?!" I realized that my fur had flexs of blood in it. I pulled him over and told him everything. At the end his eyes were red, from crying, I had to be honest, he cared for Arch more then most things. He stayed there and comforted me for the rest of the day, telling me that he would tell the rest of the pack about the unfortunate event. He had also told Urchin, and he had been lost for words and had been mourning for a long time. I just hoped that one day it would be better.
