A/N: Written for the Monday Mush Mania "All Dialogue" challenge, 11/5/07. Takes place directly after Luke proposes in VOTF. Hope you enjoy my feeble attempt!
Just Trust
"Mara, will you marry me?"
"Yes, I will."
"Really?"
"Of course, Skywalker. Would I have said it if I didn't?"
"Well, no, not really."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Well, I wasn't sure if…"
"If what? "
"Oh, nothing. "
"C'mon Skywalker, it's not nothing. You just asked me to marry you, and now you expect me not to care? "
"No Mara, I didn't mean it like that. Can we just drop it? "
"Fine. Do you have any plans for getting us out of here? "
"Not yet, no. "
"Fantastic. The water is rising even faster than before. How could I have been so stupid?"
"It wasn't stupid, Mara. It saved our lives. "
"Well, it's going to end up killing us anyway if we don't do something about it, Skywalker. "
"I'm trying, Mara. And my name is Luke. "
"Huh? "
"My name is Luke. Skywalker is so …reserved. "
"Fine… Luke. "
"Thanks. "
"Do you really think this will work? "
"Well, if I cut a hole in the ceiling, we might be able to crawl out that way. If not, I could-"
"No, Luke. I mean us. Is this going to work between us? Love, marriage, spending the rest of our lives together? "
"If we believe in it, of course it will."
"What kind of an answer is that? What will everyone think? What will your sister think?"
"It doesn't matter what they think. What we have is special, Mara. Nothing will stop me from caring about you."
"How poetic."
"Don't poke fun at me, I'm trying to make a point. "
"A point? What point do you need to make? You proposed to me and now we are going to die."
"Don't say that. There are other ways out of here."
"...Skywalker? "
"Yes? "
"Why are you always so damn optimistic? "
"Because I have to be. It's just how I am. "
"Once a farmboy, always a farmboy? "
"Something like that."
"Only you could be so naive. Yet it's some how... endearing."
"... Mara?"
"Yes? "
"We'll make it through this. We are going to live. "
"How can you be so sure? "
"I just know. "
"Jedi premonition? "
"No, not entirely. More like hope. "
"Hope isn't going to save us, Skywalker. "
"No, only we can. And we will do it together. "
"Of course together. It's the only way we can make it out alive."
"You trust me on this? "
"I'd trust you with my life. "
"And you, mine. "
"Good. Then the future is assured."
