Disclaimer: I do not own Beren, nor Luthien, nor Daeron (not that I would want him…sneaky little orc.) Nor do I own the song "How Will I Ever Be Simple Again"…though I doubt Richard Thompson would recognize it like this.

Author's Note: This is meant to take place when Beren first sees Luthien dancing. He's been an outlaw for a long time and has killed a lot of people, so when he sees Luthien, all innocent and pure…wistfulness results.

How Will I Ever Be Simple Again

O she danced in the wood

With the birds all around her

O white as a moonbeam

Barefoot in the grass.

O she sang like a child

Tu-ra-da-tu-ra-da-di

O how will I ever be simple again?

O she sat by the banks

Of the floating clear river

And laughed with the piper

Her feet in the stream.

There was nothing but peace

No nightmares attacked them

O how will I ever be simple again?

War was my love

And my friend and companion

And what did I care for a maiden who sang?

But her smile was so clear

And my heart was so weary

O how will I ever be simple again?

With her fingers in mine

We twirled in the clearing

The smell of her hair

Was like flowers in bloom

And I wanted to weep,

And my eyes ached from trying,

O how will I ever be simple again?

So graceful she moved,

With the wind and the music

And happy she was in her dances and songs.

O teach me to see

With your innocent eyes love

O how will I ever be simple again?

Thanks for reading! I may post another chapter of The Loyalty of Runty Orcs soon, but that may depend on if I get reviews for this one…hint hint…
