He looked down at his breakfast and was startled.
"Jean?" He lifted his eggs looking under at his ham with a quirked eye.
She turned to him and smiled waiting for him to continue. "Erm, not that I…mind but I wonder…why my breakfast is…erm… green?"
She furrowed her brow and remarked, "Hmm, it is isn't it."
He continued to poke at it with his fork in suspicion. He didn't want to insult her. She was always a wonderful cook and never made anything he didn't like…but…. "Is it… edible?"
"Lucien, of course it is. I wouldn't serve it to you if it wasn't." She huffed and turned back to her own meal prep.
"It just looks a little…turned…" he ventured.
When she sat down he noticed her eggs and her ham were perfectly normal looking. "Hey, why aren't yours green?"
"I'm hardly going to poison myself, Lucien. Unlike some people…"
His eyes became wide and then his words came back to him from a few months before- '…I'm fairly certain I fed myself the poison cake…'
She finished her meal and stood up setting the dishes in the sink. As she rounded the corner for reception she said,
"By the way, your next appointment is in an hour. Eat up."
He saw her smiling as she walked past and then he heard her, "April Fools!"
He smiled as he took his first bite.
