By The Waters Edge

He stood out by the waters edge, his eyes reflecting the beautiful waves that were caused by, not the moon, but the creatures that lived in the lake itself. The merpeople were especially restless tonight, for nearly thirty of the mer-population were swimming at the waters surface, the merchildren playfully splashing their peers with water, and the elder supervising this activity.

And the cause of this activity could only be the day of the year it was. The day of year that always caused this sort of carelessness among the magical creatures of Hogwarts.

People inside were laughing and playing, much like the mermaids and mermen were doing outside. This day always caused so much of a stir among his own peers, but in him it only instilled a depth of sadness and regret that would not relent. It would never relent.

Perhaps it was best that the sadness and the regret were there. The feelings were always with him, but on this day, on this very day, they pushed themselves foreword. When they did that, his feelings became noticeable to others.

"You alright, mate?" The voice came from behind him, though he didn't turn around. He knew who was there, and he knew that if he did, indeed, turn around, the owner of the voice would have the advantage. And he was not one to give up such a gift as advantage, even to his best friend.

He stood still, and he heard a soft sigh behind him and the grass ruffle as his uninvited guest turned to leave. He did not care in the least, he needed this time, as it was the only time he could ever be alone to himself, with only his painful feelings to keep him company.

            And to keep him warm.

Loathe as he was to admit it, it was indeed cold, and the night air of late October, more chilly than not, was beginning to turn his nose into a Rudolph worthy shade-of-red.

Lingering for just a moment, staring at the endless beauty of the lake, he turned swiftly away, leaving the merfolk to their play, and leaving the stars to shine on someone else.

Only that might not have been the greatest thing to do. For shortly after his less-than-hasty retreat did two figures appear on the uneven surface. To the left, a handsome man, no older than twenty-five, and to his right, a beautiful young woman whom has not aged anymore than her male counterpart. The male's hair was untidy to the extreme, and his glasses hid deep blue eyes. The woman's eyes were the thing to catch attention, for they were a deep, rich emerald green that revealed more than kept her secrets. They were both smiling soft, loving smiles at the retreating figure. Both with knowing looks on their faces.

When he reached his common room, he immediately went the room that was shared by all of the others in his year. His plan was to immediately get ready for bed, as he was quite tired.

Even as he retreated to bed, he felt as if there was something was different. He felt comfortable, and safe. He felt as if there was someone protecting him, someone who would go out of his or her way to make sure that he was all right. He quickly dismissed this.

Exhausted and cold, and climbed into his bed, tucking himself tightly under the sheets of cotton. Though, right before he shut his eyes for bed, he heard a whisper…

            "Night, son…"

There ends my tribute to Lily and James Potter. I hope you all liked. If you didn't notice, if you combine the beginning letters from all of the paragraphs it spells Happy Halloween. This is hopefully the cure to my writers block, hopefully. I hope you all enjoy it, and, as the story says, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!
