The bright morning put Yostuba, always cheerful, in an even brighter mood. She skipped on the sidewalk happily, her green pigtails bouncing with each large skip she took, her tennis shoes squeaking on the hot pavement of sidewalk. Her dad was still asleep, and she was sure Fuka was at school; summer, once such a blissful place, became a bit troublesome. Everyone had plans, leaving Yotsuba alone and anxious to play.
She always found interesting things when she went on walks, so she hoped to spot something fun. Sure enough, when she neared the park, she was something fun. A turtle; it was waddling along the sidewalk, head poking from its shell, struggling on the hot road.
Yotsuba ran up to it, kneeling behind it and watching it before she mimed its movements, pulling her shirt over her head for a shell, and spreading her arms out, bent legs waddling behind it.
She blinked when it stopped, as if sensing her, and she popped her head out of her shirt and crawls in front of it, ignoring her knees, which burned from the warmth of the sidewalk.
"Hello," she said, putting her hands on her scarred knees. The turtle lazily lifted it's and blinked at her. "I'm Yotsuba!" she greeted cheerfully, throwing her hand up in greeting. Startled, the turtle hid in its shell fearfully. She gasped, falling back on her butt and blinking wide green eyes at the trembling shell of the turtle.
"Turtle-san," she said, and poked it, gasping again when the shell rolled around once from the force of her poke. "Ohhh…playing hide and seek?"
It didn't reply.
"I'll hide too!" she bellowed, pulling up her shirt again and huddling inside, giggling softly, waiting for her new friend to find her. Instead, she felt herself being pulled up by the back of her shirt, her head popping out.
"AH! FUUKA!"
Said girl blinked at Yotsuba and released her shirt, a smile on her face. "What are you doing?"
"Playing hide and seek," she replied casually, pointing at the turtle, who since then had popped out of his shell and continued on his way. "Ah, he's walking away!"
Fuuka blinked. "Oh, you found a turtle."
"Yup," she said. "Hey, Fuuka, do you wanna play with me?"
Fuuka watched the turtle waddle of awkwardly then looked back at Yotsuba, who was waving goodbye to the turtle.
"Alright," she replied. "Let's play hide and seek."
A/N;;
I….don't know. I only read the first volume of Yotsuba&!, so I know Yotsuba and Fuka may be, er, a bit OOC. xD I tried. Anyway, it was for my friend's birthday since she loves this manga, so sorry it's short and well, crappy. xD
REVIEW. Kind criticism is welcome. c:
