Children are innocent. They do not dismiss the things they see as "a figment of there imagination" or 'a trick of the light.' They know something is going on. But they are not able to comprehend it. This is what puts fear into the hearts of the creatures that walk the night. The creatures with long fingers, black eyes and amazing hearing. These creatures seek out the children.
…
Chloe is 5. She stumbles over the cracks in the corridor, she runs to the window. She sits and watches the creatures do hideous things. Yet she tells no one, they won't believe her. She watches the creatures, laughs at there long fumbling arms. She doesn't know that their arms are made for climbing into windows. She did not understand that her laugher, her joyful giggles made the creatures shudder.
One creature catches Chloe's attention more then the others. She names that one Alex, after her father.
Alex visits her sometimes. He tells her about the creatures, what they believe. As a result, Chloe also believes that the other children are fearsome, that they should be killed. She doesn't realize that Alex see's Chloe as one of the fearsome children.
…
One day Alex visits Chloe. His eyes are different; they are bloodshot, red and soulless. But Chloe doesn't understand what it means. She merely observes. He tells her that he had to stop the creatures taking her too. She was upset and replied "That's not very nice, having children makes you and your friends happy. Let me make u happy" Again she did not understand.
The next day she sits by the window. She laughs as the creatures surround Alex. But her laughter stops when Alex's head flies over the group of creatures. Little innocent Chloe can not tear her eyes away from the decapitated head. She is staring into Alex's eyes. They are back to normal; golden, kind, loving.
Chloe finally starts to understand. Without her protector gone it was only a matter of time before the creatures came for her.
…
She waits, hoping the pieces of Alex will pull them selves together. Hoping that he will again, protect her. A creature's fingers slide over the window seal. And in that moment her innocence is gone.
…
The police were baffled. They didn't hear the silent screams of the no-longer-innocent Chloe, they didn't see her tears on the window seal. They said she ran away.
The adults of this world are very close minded. They put everything down to 'the wind' or their 'imagination.' They say children are 'immature.' But its is the adults, who ignore there children's cries about monsters, that force there children to conform to society. A society that choose to turn a blind eye to what is actually going on.
Next time a child says their is a monster under their bed. BELIEVE THEM.
