AN: After a few requests I have continued my futuristic Castle/Beckett/Baby saga. This is set a bit after my fic, 'Morning Musings'. This is written from Kate's point of View instead of Castle's. I hope you enjoy it.
Mistakes are all mine and I don't own Castle.
A Mother's Love
Kate Beckett. Ne w York City police detective. Muse; scratch that, inspiration. Killer Cook. Daughter. Wife. Mother. Never in her lifetime did she think she would become all of these things. Staring out of the bay window in her bedroom of the penthouse apartment she shared with her husband, step-daughter, son and occasionally mother-in-law, Kate's mind wandered back to the time where she could only dream of this life. Sure, the press and the paparazzi and the social outings weren't her thing, but she learned to deal with them over time. She still hated it, but she wouldn't change it, because that would mean she would have to give it all back. Kate didn't want to do that, she loved the family she helped to create so much that it hurt. Her husband, as much as he was a child most of the time, she loved him like crazy. He brought out the fun in her and tore down her emotional barriers.
The only thing she loved more was their four month old son. He was the light of her life. Kate was glad that she took the six month maternity leave offered to her by Captain Montgomery. She never though she would ever take that amount of time off work willingly, but now, as time was quickly running out, she felt sad to leave him and go back to work. She knew she didn't have to go back to work if she didn't want to. Her husband certainly brought in enough money for them to live quite comfortably, but Kate felt she had to go back, she needed to make a difference in people's lives; to keep her family safe.
She heard a sound coming from behind her, turning around she saw her husband, baby in one arm and a dirty diaper in the other hand, "Sorry to disturb you," he said, "but he exploded. Do you mind watching JJ while I dispose of this in the biohazard bin?"
Kate laughed and placed a loving kiss on her husband's lips. "Hand him over."
Once the baby was safely in her arms Rick walked out of their room and down the stairs. When Kate heard his footsteps fade away, she looked down at her son and into his piercing blue eyes, and nestled him against her chest. "I love you Jake. You make me want to give the world to you."
