Dear Readers,
It is with a heavy heart that I am here to tell you that I have decided to remove this story (yes, again) from my page, but keep it up, if that makes sense. If you're reading this, then that means I have already removed the other chapters and replaced them with this note.
Long story short-if you saw my note posted to chapter six: Due to recent happenings in the media and some outcry on social media and in the news in general, I've been seriously educating myself on Indigenous people and I can now see how Twilight is offensive to Native Americans. As portrayed in Stephanie Meyer's story, not all Native's have "russet skin, dark eyes and straight black hair". Native Americans are portrayed like magic creatures when in fact, they are actual living, breathing, diverse & multi-dimensional human beings.
I had love for my story and had big plans for it, but now I'm just very uncomfortable with it.
This is something I've discussed with my Beta Reader (Sabrina06) and she's given me a few options such as putting in a disclaimer that "The description of persons and cultures are not of the POV of the author, but hold true to the Twilight series."
But part of me still feels uncomfortable with that and I'm not sure why.
So, that's the short version of what's going on. I WILL be continuing 'Over The Midnight Moon' because that is Kit's story that is not solely based on the Quileute tribe and its culture. With 'OOTM', I'm still at a place where if I were to delve further into the Quileute, I can change it to make it more accurate.
Anyway, thank you all to everyone who has followed, read and fallen in love with 'A Little Heart Hope'. It was a wonderful story while it lasted (again). Who knows? It will be in editing, though I don't know if I'll publish it. After this, I'm not sure how many times I can delete and republish without everyone getting sick of it.
Thank you,
FictionChic
