"Regina was slowly regaining her consciousness. She no longer felt the coldness of the place she had been kept in or the hard leather straps around her wrists, ankles and waist that had kept her painfully in place, restraining her movements. Instead she felt soft surface of the bed she was in and the cozy blankets around her middle. However she still could feel the physical pain that had been ripping trough her body every time the machine had gone 'on'. But she felt safe now. Her eyes were firmly closed. I didn't die. I'm alive, the thoughts occurred in her brain. How was that possible?
In that very moment when she had told Greg about his father she had been sure she would die. There was no escape from her fate and she had been at peace with it. The only thing she had regretted had been that she would never see her little boy again. And him. But with him things had been a little bit complicated.
She felt the weight change on the mattress but she still kept her eyes closed. She didn't want to face reality just yet; she was too afraid of what she might see. However all the fears disappeared when she heard a soft voice speaking her name. His voice. The voice she had thought she'd never hear again.
"Regina." David said it gently, almost lovingly, she thought to herself. Very slowly she opened her eyes, only to meet his piercing blue orbs. He gasped at the sight of her tired and bloodshot eyes; his hand unwittingly cupped her limp small palm. The touch of his warm fingers laced with her own was incredibly pleasant. David looked at her, now relieved that she was safe, with him. When he had found her on that table, his heart had broken in two. The chance that he could have lost her there and then had been unimaginable. Slowly a small smile started to spread on his face.
"David…" Her voice was hoarse and barely audible. "What are you…" She coughed a few times. "What are you doing here?" She finally managed to say.
He smiled at her wider while his thumb was drawing small circles on her hand. His eyes were glistening with pure happiness.
"Just returning the favor."
