A/N: My very first sad fic! It's somewhat dumb, but bear with me. I feel
weird writing this, especially because Poem is one of my favorite
characters. One shot, one chapter.
Disclaimer: I own Poem and that's it.

The rain dripped silently from the shaded sky. The clouds seemed to have no mercy.
He couldn't tear his gaze away from the picture on the paper's first page. The drops of rain landed on the face in the picture, smearing the ink, making the face unidentifiable.
Salty, warm drops landed on his cheeks, dripping onto his hands and finally resting on the already smudged ink. He was crying. He couldn't tell.
Everything around him blended together, tying itself into one empty darkness. There was no sound. Nobody was laughing or shouting. He couldn't hear. The numbness inside his heart spread onwards.
His hands shook as he took one final look at the crumpled paper, the headline stood out to his tired eyes.
'Saint Marie Ship sinks. All aboard drown.'
A burst of sorrow pushed against his chest. He couldn't stand to look at it any longer, she was gone. Poem was torn from his life.
The thin paper floated like a feather from the sky, sliding gently into a puddle. The ink swirled into the gray water, the clouds reflected within the water.
He stared at the paper, watching it slowly become enveloped by the gray coldness. Finally it sank. Just like the ship.
He stumbled backwards. He didn't want to think of it any longer. He ran as fast as he could. His heart quickened, but his breath shortened. Nothing mattered anymore.
The dock was near. He stood on the edge, wanting to give everything up, but couldn't. He had to keep going, for her, if nothing else.
The waves crashed gently against the wooden dock. He could see the waves breaking in the distance. Small white crests were all that remained from the strong, powerful waves.
'Skittery?"
He turned. His cap shadowed his eyes.
"Walk with me." The voice was soft like air, but strong.
Skittery turned to look at the voice. A light chill ran up his spine.
Nobody was there, but he knew better.
She was there.
