A young boy is dropped off in front of a large building, ready for his first day of school. He turns around to face the school yard as his transport drives away. The boy adjusts his bandana over his face as he takes in his surroundings.
There are children his age running around and laughing. The boy watches a pale boy with pink slippers yell at a brown haired boy in overalls as he scurries across the grass carrying handfuls of dirt. Two girls, one wearing an owl hat, giggle and look at a boy in a space explorer costume and a shorter boy digging a hole in the sandbox. Beside him is a boy with glasses, filling the hole with water.
He continues his gaze to the corner of the school where a boy tends happily to a small sapling. A few yards away there is a boy with shaggy blond hair and goggles around his head holding a gadget of some sort in his hand. He talks animatedly to the girl with long black hair. When he sees the boy, he stops talking and glares at him. The boy quickly looks away.
The boy hears a shout and looks to the side. There is a girl with bright red hair, smiling and waving to him. The girl skips towards him, a cape flowing behind her.
"Hi!" My name is Zoeya!" The girl exclaimed in a bubbly, happy voice, "But you can call me Zoey!" She continues, "What's your name?"
Zoey's happiness is contagious, as a smile had made its way to the boys face.
"Rythian," he answered quietly. Zoey's face lit up.
"Rythian… I like that name!" Zoey's brow furrowed slightly. "What's with the mask?" She asked.
Rythian hesitated a moment before answering. "It... er, serves a purpose." He replies and looks away. Zoey notices his discomfort and changes the subject.
"So, you're new around here? Let me show you around!" Zoey says, as she bounds towards the school building.
Rythian looks back at the boy with goggles before following her. The boy is alone now, but still glaring at him. Rythian shivers and follows after Zoey.
