Title: Power of Friendship

Author: UndyingWisdom Snake-Head

Summary: A moment in Sam and Janet's high school life.

A/N: This was just a story I made up on the spot, and struggled to find any place where it could fit in to Stargate. So yeah.. After Sam's mum dies (don't care if she was younger or older or whatever.)

She pulled her friend aside, the girl was still sobbing. She held her by the shoulders. She was sick of hugging and comforting this friend of hers. This friend was so, so strong and she had no idea. She couldn't just mutter empty words anymore, it did nothing. She took her by the shoulders and shook her slightly.

"Stop! Don't cry. You don't want to cry so don't. No-one else wants you to!"

"I don't know what to do," the girl sobbed, "I just wish it would all end." A fresh wet wave came.

"I know, I see how hard things are for you. ..Look, I've been through shit in my life too, it was nothing like what you have had to know, but I never felt like I had anyone to talk to. You do, which means you have people, so many people, who care about you, who don't want to see you hurt. Take advantage of that, it doesn't just help you by being able to talk, it gives you the upper hand, the advantage on everything. You can rely completely on those around you. Anyone who hurts you doesn't know how strong you can be, and with all the support you can just forget anything, ignore anything anyone does, you don't have to think about it all the time. Your friends are your secret weapon."

"I don't know how you got through bit I can't think the way you do." More sobs. More tears.

"I know how I got through everything. Listen- Listen!" she cupped her friend's face and forced her to stay upright and focused, to steady her breathing, "You have to aspire to be all that you can," she looked directly into the girl's eyes, "You have to set a high goal to be as strong as you possibly can. Mental strength overrules physical strength time and time again, not many people understand that. You have a head start by being incredibly strong to start with. You, like everyone, are so much stronger than you will ever understand."

The girl stopped crying. She stared at her friend, impossibly instantly understanding those words.

"So how did you do anything, get yourself through anything?"

The first girl lowered her head and spoke softly. "I had no-one but myself to rely on," she looked up for a moment but the vision her friend's face was like sunlight after a prison cell, "I learnt to embrace any situation where I had the opportunity to grow stronger," she looked up again, this time holding the stare, determined to move the subtopic away from herself and back to the more pressing issues of her friend.

"You say that not many people understand these things. You're only fifteen, how can you be so sure of anything you say?" It was her turn.

The other shrugged. Then an air of strange light-heartedness swept around her, unnoticeable but to those who have had their minds eye opened recently. This feeling demanded the nearing end of this solomn conversation. "I don't know," another short shrug, "Maybe I hit it early. Maybe I'm just lucky."

The girls stood there for a few long moments before the broken girl made to leave and they walked away together, laughing about their boyfriends and school.
