Disclaimer – All characters are the property of Thames TV, and I have made no money from their use.
A/N – Two almost drabbles, set in the Heaven From Here Verse and as such, containing slash references, although this time with a high fluff rating. Wonderfully beta-d, as always, by Webbswoman.
Blaze
He loves what Jack gives him. Needs it. The steady, resilient, understanding love of someone who has done all this before. The way in which their relationship is so adult, so mature.
It's like he's playacting, always striving to live up to Jack's ideal. And to all those partners that Jack's had in the past. He will never be as strong, as organised, as the older man expects him to be – but somehow, he almost manages it. Caught up in the magic, he's happy to follow his partner.
Jack's kisses – his lovemaking – are like the man himself, and nothing like Mickey ever imagined. Gentle, intense, unstoppable. Like a fire in an Indian summer, all the fiercer for the time that has gone before.
Sometimes, the intensity terrifies Mickey. All that passion, all that lust, directed at him. He'll never be completely worthy. Nor completely safe – surely, the blaze of Jack's love will consume him eventually. And he adores Jack, but feels his own love will never quite measure up.
But for now, he decides not to worry. Never to mention it. Turns back to the older man, refusing to see grey hair and tired eyes, and looses himself in the old fascination of playing with fire.
