GW Challenge #329: Tension
Author's Note: I do not own Gundam Wing or any of its characters.
It was a small request, really, it was inconsequential. But Heero did not approve. Heero didn't like the idea of it. Heero thoroughly inspected the cords, the harness and insisted on the body harness. He would not allow me to do this otherwise. The line of people behind us was growing impatient, and the crowd below us was increasing as well. I was accustomed to causing delay to other people; however, I never enjoyed being the cause of their discomfort.
Heero secured the harness around me, not allowing the ride operator to come close to me. He held the harness in front of me, kneeling and waiting. I lifted my leg, well aware of how high the platform was. I focused on my balance as I stepped into the harness, one leg after the other. Once both my legs touched the metal textured floor in the sky, I didn't notice that Heero had stood up, his hands securing the harness around my waist. His left arm reaching around my waist to secure the latches. I held my breath. This particular harness also reached around my shoulders. Heero pulled up the strap to my shoulder, grazing my arm with his hand. He pulled up the other strap, tugging gently to secure it close to my neck. His face was barely above my eye level, I could feel his breath, even if I still held mine. My head began to feel dizzy, both with his presence and the upcoming jump.
He turned his head to mine, looked into my eyes. I gazed into his deep blue eyes, forgetting why I was here. The ride operator cleared his throat. Heero merely accepted the second ankle harness from the operator and kneeled again. He pressed my ankles together, as I controlled my balance. He secured the second harness easily and without problems.
Soon, I was ready for the jump. I became nervous. I was already close to the edge of the platform. The ride operator opened the latch to let the railing door swing open. He latched it to the railing, I watched the gaping hole in the railing. I was anxious and excited. My heart was racing. The ride operator was giving me more instructions, but I could barely hear past his "be careful to not hit the railing."
Heero was also speaking, I held his hands, unaware of when I had began to hold them. "Just relax," he said, "and jump." I nodded my head. I looked up, he was taller than I was but he was crouching because of my hold on his hands. "Jump." He said again.
I took the chance. With my target within reach, I smacked my lips on Heero's lips, a quick kiss. I didn't allow a chance for retaliation as I leaped off the platform two seconds later. The air rushed past me, my eyes remained closed. I thought I was going to crash into the ground. I opened my eyes as the tension from the cord pulled tight and I was pulled up towards the platform. The feeling was incredible. I felt lighter than air, until gravity overruled and I fell towards the Earth. A few more jostles of the cord and I was left hanging. I could hear the machinery as my body was lowered slowly. Heero was already at the ground, waiting for my descent. I smiled at him from euphoria of the jump and my stolen kiss.
