Matt Donovan realised that he was the definition of 'falling in with the wrong crowd'.
His life was hard even before the supernatural world was thrown into the mix. But he had to admit that his friends were also an influence on the tragedy that followed him. The truth is, Matt's problems were rooted so deeply in the past it was hard to find someone to blame, but at the same time, he didn't want to blame anyone. He just needed something to tell him it wasn't his fault.
Maybe it all started with Elena. It was Elena who invited the supernatural into their lives. It had been in Mystic Falls from the start but had been hiding in the shadows for so long until she found the Salvatore brothers. It was because of the supernatural that Vicki, Penny and Tyler died. It was because of the supernatural that and Caroline and Bonnie went through so much pain and sorrow, which caused Matt pain in turn. But it was his love for Elena that seemed to be the problem. She tried to kill him and he had died multiple times for her cause and yet he still loved her. She had grown tired of him after her parents' death but his love never died. He would be loyal 'til the end, nothing could make him hate her.
Maybe it all started with his mother, Kelly. She had known the Gilberts all her life; she had been best friends with Elena's mother. Because of this friendship, Matt and Elena had grown up together, sometimes even sharing a crib. Kelly was a single mother, and not a very good one. Eventually, she left too. But Matt managed to survive with the help of his best friend, Elena and his sister, Vicki. However, Vicki didn't deal with her problems as well as he dealt with his. She started to abuse drugs and hang out with the wrong crowd. Maybe the drugs would have killed her in the end, but before that could happen, Vicki was turned into an uncontrollable vampire and was killed. But that was supernatural, therefore Elena's fault. But was it really?
Maybe it was fate? He has dealt with so many losses and there have been so many people who ruined parts of his small town life, how could any one person or thing be the cause? It sometimes seemed as though he was destined for tragedy and never could have escaped it, no matter how hard he tried.
He was Matt Donovan. Good, kind, loyal, caring. He was proud of his morals and his pride in his character was the only thing keeping him from turning bad like the rest of him. But what was the point in being good if only bad things come in return?
Review? Maybe a dark Matt one shot after this if people are interested
