Professor McGonagal had never seen anything like the American students. Loud. Wild. Colors in their hair. Obviously the Salem Academy of Magic was very different than Hogwarts. Minerva began to worry the visit Dumbledore had wanted so badly would only be a bad experience for the fifth year students. Her own students were a bit rowdy, especially two certain Weasley twins, but the Americans seem to all be chaotic. The way there was no order or organization like the Houses, besides the matter of age and year, worried her. Though she admired the professors she had already met and were giving her and the other professors on the visit a tour. They, to her amazement, were not daunted by the loud behavior of the students, and had been quite effective in their dealings with the students. Minerva only hoped the Americans who were showing her students around the Academy weren't being a bad influence.
McGonagal, Dumbledore, and Snape followed Headmistress Brooks from the Charms classroom to the Dinning Hall, where they were to meet the students for lunch and discuss their tours with the Americans. As they entered the Hall, a exclamation that made Minerva inwardly groan was heard.
"You mean you're a filthy mudblood!"
The entire Hall silenced and turned to see who had spoken. Of course it had been Draco Malfoy who had made the remark. He was among the few students to sign up for the visit. The others were Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, Hannah Abbot, and Theodore Nott. The Hogwarts students had been shown around the Academy by a fifth year girl named Cassie Thorne. Everything had gone smoothly, up until Hannah had asked what her parents did for a living. Cassie had answered her father worked for an insurance company and her mother was a nurse. She then explained the fact her parents were Muggles- or as the Americans said Mortals. Of course this revelation is what lead Malfoy to his rude exclamation.
Professor McGonagal was infuriated that one of Hogwart's students would insult their host in such a way. She was about to yank Malfoy away and give him detention for a month, but as soon as she opened her mouth Headmistress Brooks held up her hand. Minerva looked at her confused, but Brooks only shook her head slightly, a small smile on her lips.
Utterly confused, McGonagal turned to watch the students.
Now, the term Mudblood had never been a problem at Salem for the current generation. Of course they knew what it meant, but no one used the term much after the eighties. Yet it only took a moment for Cassie to register what had just been said. Harry and Ron looked seconds away from hexing the blond, but she shook her head at them. All the Hogwarts students looked at her questioning when she glanced around the now silent Hall and stomped her foot once, clapped, stomped twice more, and clapped again.
It was even more a surprise to them when some of the American students mimicked and continued the motions, creating a beat.
But the most astonishing thing was when Cassie simply stepped in front of Malfoy, licked her own hand, and wiped it on his cheek.
Malfoy stuttered back, disgusted. "What the bloody-"
But he was cut off as Cassie sang out, "You got mud on your face, you big disgrace, someone better put you back in into your place! Singin'-"
The Hogwarts students (besides Malfoy) were amazed when every student in the Hall, now doing the stomping- clapping beat, sang, "WE WILL, WE WILL ROCK YOU!"
"WE WILL WE WILL ROCK YOU,
WE WILL WE WILL ROCK YOU!"
After a few more beats, the hall went silent again. A now grinning Cassie stepped in front of Malfoy and said, "Welcome to America, Pureblood."
