This is a poem I wrote about the first time Hiccup and Toothless touched, the day in the Cove when Hiccup drops his old superstitions and prejudices for good - I find that scene really powerful.

Forbidden Friendship

Sky - blue robin's eggs
Clouds are blushing pink
Softest wings enfold me
The beauty makes me blink

Two drawings intertwined
Scraped onto the ground
My head against his chest
Tail wrapped round and round

My arms around his shoulders
His scales against my skin
Glass-green eyes half-closed
Oh, think how long it's been...
.
The time since war has started
The time that has been lost
Bloody swords and gleaming blades
The lives, the deaths it's cost
.
I lean forward and breathe deeply
I sigh and close my eyes
Everything I've ever known
All of it is lies
.
The breeze softly sighs and groans
Like a dragon in its lair
This friendship - oh, I love him
