Have Your Pie and Eat It Too

I do not own Pushing Daisies in any way.

The door dinged.

Ned turned around and smiled.

She was back. She entered the Pie Hole and shook the snow off her coat. She hung it up on the coat holder, but left her scarf on.

Ned smiled at her as she made her way to the counter and sat down. "The usual?" he asked her.

She picked up the menu and pretended to look it over as Ned waited patiently. She put the menu and said, "A slice of apple".

Ned smiled and cut her a slice. He placed the plate in front her and handed her a fork. He blushed when their fingers brushed.

She took a bite and said, "I'll never know how you do it!"

"Maybe I could show you some day", he said.

"Are you asking me on a date?" she asked him.

Ned blushed again.

"It's a very sweet gesture, but maybe we should start with something simple like coffee", she said.

"Coffee", Ned said, "When?"

"Tomorrow morning, before you open", she said, "I'll meet you at that café down the street".

"Okay", Ned said smiling.

"Thanks for the pie", she said handing him the empty plate.

As Ned took the plate from her hand, she leaned forward and placed a kiss on his cheek. "See you tomorrow", she said getting up. She put her coat back on and left the Pie Hole.

The next morning, Ned quickly left his apartment and made his way down the street to meet Cassie. He entered the café and found her staring at the menu. "Hi Cassie", he said, "Having trouble deciding?"

"Well this menu is a bit different from the Pie Hole's", she said.

Once they had decided what they wanted, they stepped up to the counter and ordered.

Cassie started to pull out her credit card, but Ned stopped her.

"This is a date right?" Ned asked her.

"Yes", she said.

"Then I'm paying", Ned said pulling out some cash. He handed it to the barista and they picked up their drinks.

They sat down at a booth and sipped their coffee in silence.

It wasn't awkward, it was a nice comfortable silence.

When they were done, they walked to the Pie Hole together. As they walked, Ned's hand kept brushing Cassie's.

She grabbed his hand and laced her glove covered fingers with his.

Ned smiled and looked over at her.

Cassie looked adorable with snowflakes in her dark hair and cheeks flushed red from the cold.

They reached the door of the Pie Hole.

"I had a nice time", Cassie said.

"I did too", Ned said unlocking the front door.

Before Cassie could walk away, Ned said, "Maybe next time I could teach you to bake pies".

Cassie turned back to him and said, "I'd like that". She leaned up on her tiptoes and placed a kiss on the corner of Ned's mouth, causing him to blush.

"I'll see you later Ned". Ned smiled before entering the Pie Hole.
