When Ruby asked Emma to be her maid of honor, of course she accepted immediately, and when she heard who was going to be Victor's best man, she cursed her luck, because there was no way she would survive the wedding with that man at her side.
Killian Jones
They had an interesting chemistry, something everyone who knew them could feel when they were in the same room. The man was the king of innuendos and personal space was just not in his vocabulary, he knew how to press all of her buttons and start an infinite battle of sarcastic retorts.
She wasn't going to survive.
The rehearsal dinner was insane. Killian had been sitting beside her the whole night making it difficult to concentrate on the wedding planner instructions for the big day; Emma was sure she had missed half of Victor's speech as Killian savored slowly the wine in his glass and licked his lips.
Stop staring.
She was caught in the action when he sent her an amused smirk and wiggled his eyebrows.
Ass.
Killian suddenly leaned in and whispered in her ear. "Have you prepared your speech, love?"
Shit, no. "Yes." she lied and grinned at him.
She had to, but words weren't easy to come by... she hated weddings, she hated love.
The worst part of coming alone to that madness was that she had to be next to Killian the whole day.
Since the religious ceremony he kept gazing at her, scanning her from head to toe as some kind of personal entertainment. Not that she had complained at all, when Ruby had chosen the maids dresses quite... fitting.
He drove them both to where the reception was taking place, and of course Ruby and Victor had placed them on the same table with Mary Margaret, David, Aurora, Mulan, Robin, and Regina.
The couples table.
Idiots.
The wedding was pure bliss, it was Ruby's wedding after all. Emma watched her friends enjoying and she laughed most of the night, and then the time of the speech came...
Shit.
"Uhm hi.. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Emma." She spoke into the microphone. "I am the maid of honor and best friend of the bride. I want to start off by saying that every once in a while… the stars align, and their paths would bring two people together regardless what the world may throw their way. This was clearly the case over 20 years ago, when Ruby and I first met." The crow laughed and Ruby sent her a warm smile.
"Ruby and I always played dress up or imagined what our weddings would be like as little girls, we went to school together and we were always there for each other. Granny was right about some of the boys we dated…I have no idea how she was able to read the minds of those young men!" Tears formed at the corner of her eye, while everyone laughed. "Then, one day Victor met Ruby... I will spare everyone the details of the night he and Ruby first met, mainly because I don't remember most of it" everyone laughed again. "But I clearly remember the moment Victor asked me to introduce him to my cute friend. I remember thinking how perfect you two would be together and I was right..." The crow awed in unison and Ruby had tears in her eyes.
"Now Ruby and Victor, here you are, married forever and always. I just want to tell you guys, I'm so happy you both got your happy ending with each other, because you deserve no less." She smiled at them. "I so look forward to the future of these two. They are a perfect match, and I know that they will remain not only lovers, but friends, for the rest of their lives." Emma sniffled, finishing with tears in her eyes, and when she turned to look at Killian, he was nowhere to be found...
Then, a guitar string sounded and everyone's attention turned to Killian, who started singing.
Fucking bastard.
He sang to them.
No, he composed a song for them.
Fucking bastard, indeed.
After he finished the song and everyone made a proper toast, Ruby and Victor went to hug them both for the incredible speech and Killian's song.
When Ruby embraced Emma she whispered. "You can find your happy ending too Emma... you may not know, but he could be just at your side."
Emma eyed Killian from the corner of her eye, who was at her side chatting animatedly with Victor.
Damn.
Emma decided to enjoy the rest of the wedding, dancing with Killian.
Yeah, she wasn't going to stay bored the whole night after all.
In the middle of a dance, Killian fixed his eyes on her. "I believe Emma, we make quite the team for the weddings" he grinned and she shook her head with a matching smile.
Dork.
"Perhaps." she answered simply.
"Swan, would you go out with me?" he asked, his voice just above a whisper.
Emma froze at his question, but hey... Ruby had said... maybe... why the hell not? "Sure, tomorrow?" she finally responded.
"I'll pick you up at six." He sent her a genuine smile.
Perhaps Emma didn't hate weddings at all.
Perhaps she didn't hate love.
Perhaps she would find her happy ending after all.
