Prompt 78: Picture Sixteen and Prompt 47: Memories

It burns. I can see red flashing before my eyes and the burning rapidly extends to my heart and I feel my legs faltering.

"We didn't do it!" the two red haired elflings hid their hands behind their backs and Maitimo placed his hands on his hips, "Right...then show me your hands." The twins shared a look, then one screamed: "Adar!" and took off running. Maitimo turned his head and then looked back at the...

A fierce jolt of pain shots through my body and I am thrown from my memories. "Maitimo?" "I'm fine Kana. Just leave me alone for a while." I can feel his concerned eyes boring into my back and I am reminded of a much more pleasent event, one that makes this so heartbreakingly familiar.

Kanafinwë stood with his arms crossed and a pout on his lips. "You're not playing fair Rus!" he protested and Maitimo felt a grin splitting his face in half. "Yeah, I might be. Do you have a problem with that?" Kanafinwë stuck his tongue out and Maitimo reached over and messed up the black mop of hair. Kanafinwë shoved him away, grumbling as he glared playfully at Maitimo's back as he turned away...

I sigh, feeling a tear leak out of my left eye as Maglor touches my shoulder. "I'm fine, Maglor!" I snap, shoving him away, "Just leave me alone!" Maglor pulls back his hand, startled, and then nods, looking the tinyest bit hurt. He turns and leaves. I half want to call after him, but I don't, choosing instead to remember a time when someone had given me the same look

"Get out of my room Tyelkormo!" Maitimo hollered, angrily shoving his younger brother off of his bed and onto the floor. Tylekormo slammed onto the stone floor and curled in on himself, crying. Maitimo felt all of his annoyance fade away as Tyelkormo glanced up at him, his eyes brimming with tears and a hurt expression on his face. "I'm sorry, Tylekormo." Maitimo knelt...

I bite my lip, crying. Almost mindlessly, I take a step forward, another and then another until I am standing on the edge; staring down at the lava. I am contemplating jumping when another memory hits me full on.

"I can't get down Rus!" Maitimo stared up at Findekáno, high in a tree, stuck and panicking. "Calm down Kano." he called up, "You might fall." Even from down on the ground, he could see big fat tears running down his younger cousin's face and he felt frustrated because he couldn't get up to helpy him. Suddenly, an idea struck him. He spread his arms and shouted up: "Jump Kano!"

I shake my head roughly, shoving the memories away. "Leave me alone..." I whisper, touching my stump to my forehead, squeezing my eyes shut. Without opening them again, I take a step forward, hearing memories scream in my mind.

"I'm so sorry Maitimo...Please forgive me.

"Maedhros Fëanorian, you look at me! Findekáno didn't rescue you for you to slowly destroy yourself centuries later because of his death!

"I'm not the fool, you are! You always have been! But you like pretending that you're smart and dark Caranthir is stupid!"

In the end, Maedhros welcomed death gladly...
