"…stood in the crowd. I knew the one-eyed man had a plan. He better. He had a smirk
on his face. A smirk of a winner. That made two of us."

I wiped my face from the water before the mirror, looking up for the first time in what
seemed like years. The mirror stretched before me, reminding me of the nightmares that I have
had for a few weeks now. The one-eyed did have a plan.

Bravura, and the cops, and even Horne's private army could not measure with the hell
that had been shown to me. Hell, nothing could. The empty shells cast across the floor, the
bodies of my enemies lying along with them, I have not yet forgotten. Wooden had kept me in
close custody after getting me out of jail, proving my innocence and finding reason for a my
hell-bent ways. My way a little closer to heaven was not yet over.

I didn't know where I was, but I realized that is was one of the those rich hotel rooms,
the one with a complementary chocolate on the pillow. Chocolate was the last thing I needed. I
took one more look in the clean mirror and noticed the scars on my face. The scars that taking
Horne's life had cost.

I exited and went down to meet Wooden. The old man's voice on the phone suggested
that he wanted something from me. Maybe he wanted to send me back to hell, I didn't know. I
just knew I owed him. As I walked down, Wooden one-eyed face smiled at me. That same
smile…
"Max Payne…I haven't said that name in a long enough time. You've had your month of
rest, but even though I truly do not believe you have gotten over all of this, I have a mission for
you."
"Don't worry about me. I'm ready to plunge myself back in this at your notice."
"Very well then. This is a photo of Jim Bravura."
"I don't need the photo. I know the man. He's been my worst nemesis for the past few
weeks."
"Max, take the photo. Believe me, you will soon need it."
"Okay. What could Bravura do in order for him to slip into your plans."
"Max…I don't know how to tell you this…" Wooden took a deep breath and his
expression changed to smug and grim. My heart skipped a beat.
"He was behind the assassination of Alex and Punchinello."
"So you're telling me that the cops were bought?"
"No, it was only Bravura acting. The rest just followed him, thinking that they were
acting up the law upon a major criminal."
"The bastard…what do you want me to do?"
"I don't want you to kill but…I want you to bring to me something that he has."
"What?"
"Bring me his criminal files and his pocketwatch."
"Why the watch?"
"It is part of my personal agenda."
Wooden smiled again, a smile that told me, "you owe me, don't go into it". I listened…
