Curie hated these moments. She could hear Kara's soft cries from inside the room she was in, full of longing and grief. She shifted uncomfortably outside the door as she questioned what she should do. Go in and try to make Kara feel better or wait until all this passed and it was another uncomfortable memory.
A small hiccup interrupted the crying, making up her mind Curie twisted the doorknob and entered the dark room. Kara was huddled up in the old bathtub the room's restroom had, it was dirty and rust was creeping up the sides of it, signs of how long the tub had been there.
"You okay?" Curie asked uncomfortably as she shifted from one foot to another. She had been trained by the best in the Institute to handle combat not emotional situations.
Kara sniffled and looked at her with big grey hazel eyes, tears streaming down from behind her glasses. Kara shook her head as she stared at the wastelander, a battle hardened warrior.
Stepping closer to the scientist Curie moved her hand to give Kara an awkward pat on the shoulder, shifting her gaze from the distraught woman below her. A second later, Kara was gripping Curie for all she was worth as she buried her head in the crook of her shoulder and cried.
"I-I j-just can't believe s-she's g-gone." Kara stammered out as the tears fell.
Curie moved her arms to embrace Kara in an awkward hug, it had been weeks since Kara had left the vault and entered a new world. Weeks since she had left her wife behind, the person who had held her heart for years, probably.
"I'm sorry." Curie responded as she rested her head on the shorter woman's shoulder.
As Kara cried into her shoulder murmering about a love long gone, Curie was taking notice of the scientist's body. The way she always seemed to smell like flowers or how her smaller frame seemed to fit together perfectly with her taller more muscular one. A strange sensation buried itself inside Curie's synthetic heart, a warmth that brought the strange sensation of fluttering in her stomach like a pair of Bloodbugs flying around and wrecking havoc within her.
As the feeling settled over Curie and the Vault Dweller's crying died down Curie found herself muttering, "I promise to never leave your side."
