Chapter 1

Of Course I died After Saving Someone

Day 0

It was simply ridiculous how everything in my almost eighteen year old life only came down to my death. I remember wishing for my death because of all the pain I had felt in my heart. But once death was granted to me I couldn't help cling on to life. I didn't want to die. Not like this. Not with so much left to do. Was my purpose in life really meant to waste away without a second thought? That was just so cruel. I had saved someone. Yes. But only to die instead. I thought I could be a hero seeing as not many people were up to the task. When I rushed in, I didn't even think about my own life. It's actually pretty funny if you think about it. Three guys were about to assault a woman and I just ran to them without thinking. On the streets, I generally knew how to take care of myself. But what I didn't expect is for them to have a gun and to actually shoot me. I mean, I was way smaller than them and a girl. They could have easily taken me down. Okay, okay. Maybe not because like I said I knew how to take care of myself. I knew how to fight. I knew how to defend and attack. I had done it so many time before for the years I have spent on the streets. But still, to bring a gun in a fist fight was a dirty cheat. And that was how I died. With a bullet in my chest, bleeding out on the streets I had called my home. Such bitter sweetness. No one would remember or even care that I was gone. Well… Maybe one person would. He was the only one to have been nice to me. And I wouldn't have the chance to tell him thank you. I wouldn't be going to see him that night.

But I didn't have much time to think about that as my mind began to dim. The darkness welcomed me with open arms as I was bleeding on the cold ground of the alley way. I couldn't feel any pain though. I just felt like I was floating. That was when I was given a choice. To die and be reborn without remembering what I had experience or to live in a strange world where no one knew me and remember my experiences as myself. I remember thinking that a new life starting over might be a good choice. But I wanted to remember who I was. I wanted to remember the pain, the anger and the strength because that is what made me who I am. The voice in the darkness let me think it through. This voice was not male nor female. It merely existed in my head. Was it in my head? I couldn't tell anymore. All I knew is that I had made my choice. I wanted to stay who I was and make people happy. I wanted to take the pain away. Or at least as much of the pain I could. Because I knew how it felt to be in pain. I just wanted to heal that.

"So be it," the voice said.

March 1st - Day 1

I felt like I was lifted. It was the strangest sensation ever. Like a pair of warm, strong arms was carrying me away from the cold. Then the smell of cigarettes and alcohol went through my nose.

"What do you have there, Yata?" I heard a male voice say close by.

"Yata found her in the alley. He insisted that we bring her here. She looks pretty beaten up. Poor thing," a voice of another male said. He sounded worried for some reason.

"W-Would you shut up, Rikio!" another male voice said. This one was the closest voice. Was he the one carrying me? I tried to open my eyes and say something but I felt so weak. It bothered me.

"Can you sense anything, Anna?" the first voice I heard said.

"No. Nothing at all. How strange," it was a girl's voice. It was soft and delicate. Could she be a child? What would she be doing there?

"What do you mean?" the closest voice who I believed was from the guy names Yata asked.

"It's as if my powers are blocked from her." I felt my hand grab onto something. It felt like a piece of cloth.

"W-what the hell is she doing?" Yata questioned.

"Looks like she took a liking to you, kid," a new voice said in a teasing tone.

"Shut the fuck up."

I grabbed onto the cloth some more to get a sense of what it was. My body started to feel lighter. I could move it more freely now. My eyes were a struggle to open but they finally slowly opened. My eyes stared into another pair of eyes. I didn't have much time to register anything else until my body crashed onto the ground. I sat up slowly and rubbed my sore back.

"Ow that hurt," I mumbled.

"Yata, you could have broke her," the teasing voice said.

"I-I didn't mean to! She just…" he trailed off. I looked up at him. I guess he was carrying me and had dropped me by accident. He was blushing pretty hard.

I bit my lip trying not to laugh, "No harm done, dude." I mean, only a moment ago I had been dead right? Was this the new world that the voice told me about? It didn't seem all that different. I looked around in my surroundings. There were several males and one small girl of about 11 years of age in what looked to be a bar. "Where am I?"

"HOMRA," the voice I recognize to be the one teasing Yata informed me. "It's my bar. Do you like it?" he flashed me a smirk.

I slowly stood up to my feet. My body still felt a little stiff but overall I was alive. I could see the cuts and bruises I got from the fight I was in before I 'died'. But the bullet wound was gone, like it has never been there.

"What happened to you anyways, little girl?" I turned to the owner of the voice. He had red hair and looked dangerous. But he didn't intimidate me.

"First of all, I'm not a little girl. Don't judge me just because I'm short. And I have a name. It's Sera," I crossed my arms. Everyone always had to comment about my height. I was almost 18 and still only standing at 5 feet and 2 inches.

He raised his arms and had the tiniest of smirks on his face, "You got fire in you. Don't you?" The rest of the guys looked like they were shocked I had said what I said. Now I knew that this guy was their leader. "Sera, you are one interesting girl."

"I got into a fight."

He just stared at me and then a few minutes later he let out a laugh, "Of course you did. You got beaten pretty badly."

I shrugged and grinned, "You should have seen the other guys."

"I bet your parents wouldn't be that impressed," the blond who had been teasing Yata earlier chipped in. Bitterness went through me as I remembered my 'parents'. The ones who left me to fend for myself since I was little. The ones who left me in the foster care system. The ones who had abandoned me. Not like they took care of me anyways.

"Like they would care," I let out with a sneer by accident. My eyes widened as I couldn't believe I said that out loud. I looked down in embarrassment.

"Not on good terms with you parents, huh?" the redhead leader asked me. He walked towards me and stuck out his hand to me. I looked up and tilted my head to the side. "Let's see if you can stand the heat."

"What?" I asked in confusion. Was this guy for real?

"If you can, I'll let you stay with us. After all, we take care of our own."

That still didn't answer any of my questions. What did he mean by stand the heat? I stared at his open hand. If I took it would mean that I was with them. But I didn't even know them. They could just be some creeps. However, for some reason all I felt was comfort here. I felt no danger to myself. These guys looked dangerous but I felt safe. It was weird. Could I really trust these guys? I was in a new world. I didn't know anyone here. This was my only chance at having somewhere to stay. Oh, what the hell. A handshake didn't mean shit.

Without any more hesitation, I grabbed hold of his hand. I watched as it was engulfed in red flames. My mouth dropped slightly at the intensity of the flames. I wasn't afraid or freaked out. I was in total awe. Then I felt my whole body be engulfed in the flames. The warmth spread through me. His hand suddenly let my hand go.

"What the hell did you do?!" I heard Yata yell. "You can't just kill a girl!"

"No. The flames have accepted her," Anna said to them.

"You're right. She isn't burning. The flames are just dancing around her," the blond's voice said.

The flames finally died down and I was still stunned from what had just happened. "Wow," I let out. I still couldn't believe it. I didn't know what that meant or anything like that. This wasn't real. Was it? I felt a pat on the head and looked up. The redheaded guy was smirking at me the tiniest bit.

"Welcome to the Red Clan," he said. The others each patted my shoulder or my back except for Yata who stood away from me.

"Yeah, welcome," he mumbled, not looking at me.

I smiled, "Thanks, Yata." He looked at me with wide eyes then turned his face away. I couldn't help but laugh a little. I turned to the redheaded guy, "What is this clan thing you were talking about?"

"Mikoto is the Red King. And we are his clansmen. Or clanswomen if you prefer," the blond answered. That still didn't make much sense to me. "There are seven kings in the world who hold unimaginable power. They exist to make the world what it is."

This was oddly sounding more familiar by the second. Mikoto, Red King, HOMRA, and Yata. Not to mention they looked familiar too. And then it finally hit me. My face paled at the sudden realization. I was in the anime K. I was in an anime that my former friends told me a lot about. I world that only existed in books, on tv and on the internet in my world! How was this even possible?! What was I doing here?

"You were meant for a bigger destiny. That is where this choice, this path will lead you. I have utmost faith in you, Sera Walker." That's what the voice had told me. This world was my destiny? Why? Well, shit.

"You look sick. You okay?" the blond asked me, bringing me back to reality.

"Huh?" I said, stupidly. Then remembered where I was. "Oh, yeah. Sorry."

"Why did we have to bring a girl into it?" Yata said from somewhere behind me. Did he really hate girls that much? "I mean, she'll only get in the way."

"Are you saying you want to be her guard, Yata?" Mikoto teased. That was weird. He didn't seem the type to.

"N-no! T-that's not-" he was cut off.

"Great. Then she will be staying at your place. And you are to make sure she doesn't get in the way."

"Hey!" I complained, "I resent that!" I pouted as I made my way to Yata, "What's your damn problem with me?"

His cheeks turned red. Was he angry? He spoke away from me, as if looking at me would cause the world to explode or something, "A girl shouldn't be here. You could get hurt."

My body relaxed as I let those words sink in. He was afraid I would get hurt? I could feel my face soften in a smile, "You idiot."

"Wha-"

"I'm not as fragile as you think, you know," I said to him and stuck out my hand. "Friends?"

His ears were now red as well but he hesitantly grabbed my hand and then we shook, "F-friends." He was an awkward guy but he was kind of cute.

3rd POV

Yata and Rikio were walking back to Headquarters to get their orders from their king. Yata was so frustrated and angry form the betrayal of his best friend. He just wanted to find the damn guy and make him pay. No body turned their backs on HOMRA. But instead of finding the guy, he found a girl with ripped up clothes all beat up on the ground in the alley way they were walking down to HOMRA. Yata was the first to spot her because he had been walking faster than Rikio. He was always faster than Rikio.

Yata could only stare at the hurt girl in front of him. Who had done this to her? She had a small bruise on her cheek. He could see bruises all over her arms and legs that were exposed because she wore a black tank top and shorts. Her midnight black hair in a high ponytail that was sprawled all around her in waves. Her skin was white like porcelain. She looked so fragile on that cold ground. More anger rose in Yata for whoever did this to the girl. Girls should never be threatened or hurt like this.

"What is it, Yata?" Rikio asked as he finally caught up. He looked passed his friend to see what he was looking at. "Oh, a girl. She looks really hurt."

"Here," Yata said as he pushed his skateboard and his baseball bat to his friend's chest. Rikio took it as a reflex but questioned Yata as to what his is doing. "We can't just leave her here like that. Will bring her back to headquarters." Rikio staying quiet as they both continued on the few steps left to get to HOMRA, the girl in Yata's arms.

"What do you have there, Yata?" Mikoto asked as he saw the beautiful girl in Yata's arms. Yata having a girl in his arms was a surprise for everyone. The members present all looked at the beaten up girl.

"Yata found her in the alley. He insisted that we bring her here. She looks pretty beaten up. Poor thing," Rikio explained to everyone. It made sense. No one at HOMRA would have left a girl in an alley. Especially someone who would never hurt a girl.

"W-Would you shut up, Rikio!" Yata yelled in embarrassment. Having a pretty girl in his arms was bad enough. He didn't need to be teased about it. Why did he have to be so awkward around girls? They always seemed to run from him. Well, his reputation didn't help him get a girlfriend either but he was just awkward around them.

"Can you sense anything, Anna?" Mikoto asked the small girl he hand grown close to.

She shook her head, "No. Nothing at all. How strange." It was unheard of that Anna wouldn't be able to get anything out of someone. It was indeed strange. Who was this strange girl?

"What do you mean?" Yata asked as he looked at the girl in his arms. His cheeks turned a slight shade of pink. Could she really be that special?

"It's as if my powers are blocked from her," Anna informed them. But then the girl had gripped her hand on Yata's sweater.

"W-what the hell is she doing?" Yata questioned. He didn't know what to do. The girl was holding on to him now.

"Looks like she took a liking to you, kid," Kusanagi teased. It was always fun to tease Yata about women. Poor guy didn't know what to say, do or act around them.

"Shut the fuck up," Yata said with a glare.

She grabbed onto his shirt some more, causing him to look down and pay attention to her again. Yata didn't know what to do. She was waking up in his arms and he didn't know what he should do with that. Her eyes finally opened meet his. They were a violet color framed with dark, long lashes making them pop out. They were beautiful. He freaked out and let her go by accident. She hit the floor with a thud. Yata scowled himself at being an idiot and letting her fall. She was already hurt for crying out loud. Why did he have to go and make it worse?

"Ow that hurt," she mumbled. Her voice made his heart skip a beat and guilt set in. He was really an idiot when it came to girls.

"Yata, you could have broken her," Kusanagi teased as he looked at the fallen girl. She was rubbing her back.

"I-I didn't mean to! She just…" he trailed off. She looked up at him. And everyone else watched the interaction between them with amusement in their eyes.

"No harm done, dude," she said as if holding back laughter. She looked around. "Where am I?"

"HOMRA," Kusanagi answered her. "It's my bar. Do you like it?" he flashed her a smirk. The shithead was trying to flirt with her. They watched as she slowly stood up. She was slightly unsteady, Yata made sure that he was ready to catch her if she fell again. He wouldn't make the same mistake twice. He couldn't help but notice that she was about 5 inches shorter than him.

"What happened to you anyways, little girl?" Mikoto asked. Everyone remained silent as she looked at their king. It was odd that he would speak, especially to someone he didn't know. What was his sudden interest in her?

"First of all, I'm not a little girl. Don't judge me just because I'm short. And I have a name. It's Sera," she crossed my arms. Everyone a stood silent as she gave their king attitude. This girl had guts. If it were anyone else, they would have ran for it. But she stood her ground and spoke her mind. She wasn't intimidated by their king.

Their king rose his arms as if in surrender and had the tiniest of smirks on his face, "You got fire in you. Don't you?" The rest of the guys couldn't believe the exchange. This girl was really something else if their king was acting this way. "Sera, you are one interesting girl."

"I got into a fight." Everyone stayed quiet at the little bit of information she gave them. So, she had gotten into a fight and that was how she got her injuries.

He just stared at her and then a few minutes later he let out a laugh, "Of course you did. You got beaten pretty badly."

She shrugged and grinned, "You should have seen the other guys." The air in the bar was somehow lighter as she said that.

"I bet your parents wouldn't be that impressed," Kusanagi said with a slight smile.

Her face fell, "Like they would care." As if realizing what she just said, she looked down.

"Not on good terms with your parents, huh?" Mikoto asked her. She reminded him a little bit of Tatara Totsuka who had told them he would be away for a while to find a friend of his. Anyways, this girl interested the King. He was curious to know if the red aura would accept her. He walked towards her and stuck out his hand to her. She looked up and tilted her head to the side. She was confused but the rest of the guys knew that their king wanted her in his clan. She was strong-willed and had a fire in her. Plus, she seemed to have nowhere else to go. "Let's see if you can stand the heat." Yata wasn't sure about this. Having a girl in the clan might complicate things.

"What?" she questioned.

"If you can, I'll let you stay with us. After all, we take care of our own," their king said. Everyone looked at each other with pride.

She looked hesitant for a few minutes. But without any second guesses she took his hand. They all watched as the flames appeared in his hand. Then they watched as the flames were engulfing the girl they just met. They were all worried that their king had burned her alive. Mikoto let her hand go. He had thought he didn't put much power in that flame. But it was as if it had a mind of its own now.

"What the hell did you do?!" Yata yelled. "You can't just kill a girl!" He had wanted to protect her not get her killed by his own clan. By his own king.

"No. The flames have accepted her," Anna said to them. They all looked closer. Anna was right.

"You're right. She isn't burning. The flames are just dancing around her," Kusanagi said in awe. That's what happens when the power is inside of them. When they have received the aura. This girl has the aura or so it would seem.

"Wow," she let out after the flames had died down.

"Welcome to the Red Clan," Mikoto said as he patted her head. The others each took their turns welcoming the girl to their clan. She looked so confused.

"Yeah, welcome," Yata mumbled from his corner. He was too caught up in his head to figure out what he should say or do.

He watched as she smiled at him, "Thanks, Yata." His eyes widened a bit from being smiled at by a girl. She looked really pretty when she smiled. His cheeks flushed at the thought and he looked away in embarrassment. Damn, why did he have to be so stupid and awkward? "What is this clan thing you were talking about?"

"Mikoto is the Red King. And we are his clansmen. Or clanswomen if you prefer," Kusanagi explained to her. "There are seven kings in the world who hold unimaginable power. They exist to make the world what it is." Her face paled at his explanation. "You look sick. You okay?"

"Huh?" she said as if she were snapped back to focus. "Oh, yeah. Sorry."

"Why did we have to bring a girl into it?" Yata said from behind her. He didn't think it was a good idea dragging her into this. What if someone killed her too? "I mean, she'll only get in the way."

"Are you saying you want to be her guard, Yata?" Mikoto teased, sensing that Yata was trying to protect the girl by trying to get her kicked out. But Mikoto like the girl. She was going to be a good addition to the clan. Not to mention that she would be the only girl with the exception of Anna. And hell, maybe she would make a man out of Yata.

"N-no! T-that's not-" he was cut off. Now he was stuck. His plans failed miserably.

"Great. Then she will be staying at your place. And you are to make sure she doesn't get in the way." Oh, it was worse than he thought. He was going to babysit her now? He had more important things to do. Plus, what could he say to her? He had no problems beating guys up. But being around a girl wasn't so easy for him.

"Hey!" she brought the attention back on her, "I resent that!" She pouted cutely and made her way to Yata who had a slight tinge of pink to his cheeks, "What's your damn problem with me?" He couldn't deny that she was attractive. All the more reason it was hard for him to be calm. Plus, she wasn't like the other girls. That much he knew. That made it even harder for him as his chest beat more loudly. He just wanted to disappear.

With all his power and nerves that he had left he said, "A girl shouldn't be here. You could get hurt." He didn't mean it as an insult. He just didn't want her to get hurt. It didn't matter that she was different. Actually, maybe it did. She was different. She didn't run away from them. Instead she talked back, without fear. She stood her ground in a room full of men. She was at their mercy. She had already been beaten but she still… She was something like a flame that wouldn't easily be put out. And he liked that about her. Then again, they all did.

Her face soften into a smile. His heart skipped a beat once more. She looked so fragile. Like she could break. How could she have all this fire? "You idiot," she let out.

That caught him off guard. Did she really call him an idiot after smiling at him like that? "Wha-"

"I'm not as fragile as you think, you know," she said to him as if she could read his mind. She stuck out her hand at him, "Friends?" That was the first time a girl approached him to be his friend. He didn't know what to do. Should he take her hand? Did he want to be friends with her? What if he hurt her? No, that was stupid. His king had ordered him to look after her. And that's what he wanted to do. He knew that she was strong but she was still fragile in his eyes. He would protect her flame. That he promised.

He could feel the heat on his cheeks as he nodded and shook her hand, "F-friends."
