Kate: You didn't say goodbye.
Juan: Don't be mad. I wanted to.
Kate: Next time you leave, say goodbye.
Juan: Next time I leave, I'll take you with me.
Kate lay on her bed thinking back to that day. Their team "The Big Green" had won the game against "The Knights". From that moment on everything had changed. It was like that game had changed their lives. In a way she figured it had.
Kate and her dad started having a better relationship. Ms. Montgomery wound up staying here permanently and marrying Sheriff Palmer. When the little dude, Newt…when his family passed away, Sheriff Palmer and Ms. Montgomery ended up adopting him.
She looked around her room, which was empty due to the fact that she was all packed up for college. She was going to the University of Texas at Austin on an academic scholarship and Juan was going on an athletic scholarship. Thinking about Juan made her look at the only thing in her room that was not in a box. On her bedside table was a picture of the team that was taken the day that they had won the game.
BEEP! BEEP!
"Hey Katie, Juan's here!"
"Okay Dad!" Kate yelled. Grabbing a duffle bag and a backpack, her dad picked up a couple of boxes and followed her out to Juan's jeep. Seeing her boyfriend (they had started dating freshman year) she went over to him, as he got out of the driver's seat, and kissed him.
"Ahem!" Kate's dad cleared his throat, disturbing the moment.
The two of them looked sheepish…well Juan did anyway. Kate just glared at her father. Anyway after a tearful goodbye was said between father and daughter, Kate got into Juan's jeep and they drove towards Austin.
During the ride Juan said, "I told you I was gonna take you with me."
"Yeah you did Juan," replied Kate. "You kept your promise."
