Prologue
The Targaryen were so unique, men and women around them would considered themselves lesser beings to them.
They were the last Dragonlords, the sons and daughters of the ancient empire of Valyria. Apart from society, the Targaryen were known to possess inhuman beauty, pale skin, silver/platinum/gold hair, and perfect violet eyes. But what makes them unique was their skill and reputation as Dragon riders.
The ancient Valyrians mastered the art of raising dragons and used them as battle mounts to create a immense empire, called the Valyrian Freehold. They later used the dragons to conquer the Old Empire of Ghis in the Ghiscari wars, and hundreds of dragons were employed by Valyria during the Rhoynish Wars.
After the Doom of Valyria, the Targaryen moved to Westeros, relocating to island called Drgaonstone, an old Valyrian outpost. It was from there, Aegon Targaryen and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys begun their war of conquest, to ruled all of Westeros. Using their mighty Dragon, armies and kingdoms alike fell before them. Finally complete, from King's Landing, the spot where Aegon landed
Due to conquering Westeros, the Targaryen were acknowledging to be unstoppable and unrivaled by all around them…saved for one.
The McLeods.
Unlike most Houses that has ancient links to legendary figures from the Age of Heroes; the McLeods begin from humble beginnings. Yet, a Northern family, the McLeods carries the blood of the First Men within their veins. Lords of Bastion Peak and the Northern Mountains, the McLeods were set apart from society due of bearing Golden eyes.
The McLeods were known for their resilient faith to the Old Gods, and were respected as honorable warriors, yet greatly feared for their berserk fury in battle. It was rumored that the McLeods were wargs; skinchangers with the ability to enter the mind of an animal and control its actions.
But what makes the McLeods unique like the Targaryen was they too are known to tame and ride mystical flying creatures whose cunning and savagery rivals the mighty dragons.
These creatures are known as the Griffins.
My name is Maester Yandel, and this is the history and story of the McLeods and their Griffins, the only people worthy enough to rival the Targaryen and their dragons.
