Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters but Sam and the few others I added. I think I own the plot b/c I haven't seen it up before…
"Gwahhhhhhh…" Lily shouted as she tossed her papers at the wall. Sam, her best friend, grabbed her backpack off her bed and searched through it until she found her crumpled application.
"Gotcha," Sam exclaimed, "how are your applications coming?"
"Hmmmm… generally speaking when I throw my papers at the wall, it means I am having a few problems with them," she replied through clenched teeth, "I don't know if I should take Ancient Runes, Latin, Muggle Studies, Herbology, The History of Hogwarts, Divination…"
"OK, OK, I get the point. You have no idea what to class to take during your free time, so you can be an over achiever and beat the rest of us," she responded with a hint of annoyance in her voice.
"Hey…"
"Calm down I'm just kidding. You look like you need a break. Come on lets take a break and go visit your 'boyfriend' James"
"He's not my boyfriend. He's just a really good friend who happens to be a boy…"
Sam cut her off as she dragged her out the door and into the common room.
"JAMES! SIRIUS!" Sam shouted at the top of her lungs. James jumped up off the couch and glanced around to find the source of the screaming. He spotted them and strutted towards them.
"How may I help you lovely ladies?"
"I think what he means is you wanna go do something?" Sirius filled in helpfully.
"Actually that is what I had in mind," Sam filled in before Lily could say no.
They grabbed their coats and headed out the portrait of the fat lady and her husband. As the portrait swung shut behind them Sirius yelled that they outta get a room. They all burst into laughter. This broke the ice as they headed out the doors towards the lake. Lily and James walked around and talked until they noticed Sirius and Sam had disappeared. They figured out quick where they were. They kept walking and talking until James grew real quiet. They had reached the big rock and James invited her to sit down next to him. James reached out and touched her hand. She jerked it away without thinking about it. Once she had realized what she'd done she replaced her hand under his. No words were exchanged as Lily buried her face in his chest. She started to sob uncontrollably as he held her close and stroked her hair. They sat there like this; Lily had stopped crying, until it was dark. She sat up slowly, regretting that she had to.
"We outta head back, don't you think?" he asked her also regretting this day had to end.
They stood up slowly and walked back, holding hands. They stopped at the door and James asked her a question she had wanted to hear for a very long time.
