It was early in the morning when Tenten met up with Neji in the usual training place. It was Saturday, their day off, but no day was a day off for Neji. So he made Tenten train with him so he could perfect his skills.
"Ne Neji, watcha doing?," inquired Tenten as she walked up behind him.
Neji was concentrating on carving something with his kunai.
As usual, Neji responded with a grunt,
"Hn".
"Can you guess what today is?" asked Tenten.
"Saturday" Neji swiftly replied.
"But it's not just any Saturday"
"It's Saturday at 8:03 in the morning, you're late"
Tenten sighed and looked up at the soft, blue sky. Some days she wished she could float on a cloud in the sky, in her own cloud castle. Then she could eat all the chocolate in the world and make Lee and Gai-sensai do her bidding while playing with Neji's soft hair. How was he able to keep his hair so shiny and soft all the time? How much did he spend on shampoo and conditioner? Tenten bet he bought the organic kind while she could only afford the only thing on sale- which at the moment was V05 shampoo. You wouldn't be able to tell from the baggy clothes and tomboyish attitude, but Tenten could be such a girl at times.
Especially when Neji was sitting there in his traditional Hyuuga robes. He always looked so good, while maintaining his unfeeling, arrogant, I woke up like this attitude. But Neji was Neji, and having romantic feelings for someone was probably the farthest thing from his mind.
"Come on let's train!" said Tenten enthusiastically. Someone apparently ate breakfast today ( Cinnamon Toast Crunch was Tenten's favorite).
Neji put down what he was working on and stood up to assume his sparring position.
They trained for four hours and ate lunch and then continued honing their ninjutsu, and taijutsu skills. By the end of the day, Tenten was wiped out, but gave Neji a grin and said, "That was fun, you're dodging my attacks faster. Guess I'll have to come up with more moves, ne?
Neji inwardly smirked. Although he appeared emotionless and cold, he couldn't deny being flattered by Tenten's praise.
"Be here at 7:50 tomorrow morning, I'll bring a new scroll Hiashi gave me that we can work on." Replied Neji.
Tenten told Neji good-bye and skipped home.
That night when she went outside to take out her trash, she noticed a small box on her doorstep. She opened it to find a wooden-carved dragon, her favorite animal.
The note inside read, " To my teammate Tenten, I know you enjoy dragons and their pointy claws and what-not, so I decided to make this for you. Happy Birthday.
From,
Neji"
And so it was.
