This is a one shot that I put on Anime Amino a bit ago, but it's a fanfiction, so here you go!

"Smile." I pushed the sides of my mouth up. After I let go, they fell back into a frown.

"Smi-le." I tried once more, but to no avail.

"..."

"I just killed a person." I slumped onto the floor. "I can't smile... What do I do now, Mom?"

"Smile Takeshi!" A young woman with short black hair wiped away my tears, pinching my cheeks upwards.

I was covered in bruises from the extensive baseball practice I did. Someone had just accidentally slammed a metal bat into me. I fell to the ground in tears.

"I can't Mommy, it hurts!" I sat on the ground in tears. "I'm can't be happy at all."

"Well," she looked me in the eye, "did you know that smiling can make you happier? Even if you are sad?"

"Really?" My eyes filled with curiosity.

"Yeah!" She pointed to her smile. "Okay? Now you try.

I tried to force a one, but it was very weak.

"That's the spirit! You can do it!" Her enthusiasm let me truly smile. "Yes! Keep that! I hope you feel better now."

"I do!" Tilting my head, a big smile spreads across my face.

"Ah, but Takeshi looks cool when he is serious, we don't want to get rid of that~ You can do all that kinds of stuff... Just don't be sad. Don't cry... Mommy doesn't want that." She smiled weakly at me, looking like she was about to cry. Who was she
to talk. Not crying.

About a year after that... Mom died.

"Take-chan, you need to get out of here!" There was suddenly fire out of nowhere, engulfing everything around us. Mom was shoving me towards a near exit. "Let's go!"

A nearby table burst into flames. Quickly, she picked me up in her arms and ran. I could hear sirens blaring outside. My eyes stung and I could barely open them. I think it was the same for Mom too.

There was a window, but we were on the third floor, not to mention it was completely blocked. Furiously, she started to comb away at the blockage, but fire doesn't wait. It advanced on us, we were now surrounded in a wall of flames. Eventually, a
small hole was made, but only big enough for me to fit through. She looked down, finding firemen with a parachute to catch anyone who would fall.

"Catch!" She hollered, picking me up and tossing me down.

I looked. Her hand was reaching out to me, but I could not grab it. I saw it retracting, then disappear.

"Daddy," I saw him standing in the ground. Tears streamed down my face, but a smile was still plastered there.

Bounding over to me, he trembled. "You don't have to smile."

"No, this way I might feel happier, even if the chances are slim. But, thank you Daddy, for trying to help."

He caught me up in a caring embrace. We never talked about Mom after that, it was a forbidden subject, but I always remembered her words.

"Smile!"

"Well," wiping away my tears, I lifted the corners of my mouth up, "time to see Tsuna!"
