'Live and Forget'

The smell of smoke was around the entire village, which woke Ray up from his deep slumber. Being only a child, he had no clue what was going. He made his towards the window and saw his whole village on fire. The dark red/orange flames, dancing around like little fairies. People screamed and blood went everywhere. Ray closed his eyes and turned around and looked at his best friend Kit still sleeping away on the ground near.
Kit felt someone shaking her awake, calling her name. She opened her eyes, seeing shadows of firelight dance on the walls of the room. She saw Ray, a worried look on his face.
"Ray, what's the matter? Why is there smoke?"
"Kitty, I think someone's come to take everyone away...you remember the stories the elders told?" He paused, Kit nodded. "They must be true! Another village must have come to make us slaves!"
Kit looked out the window, the white shift blowing from the heated air coming from outside.
Ray looked outside with her. "Kit, we have to leave now. We cant be enslaved with everyone else. Even if it is our friends." He said to her as he walked over to his dresser and pulled on his red headband. His gold eyes looked once more out the window as he grabbed Kit's arm and started to run out the door with her.
Kit felt herself pulled, running through the streets, hiding around corners from the attackers. She dared not cry, she couldn't. The flames seemed to tease her, as if calling out, saying 'no matter how far you run, you'll never get away'. She tried not to look at them, letting Ray lead her through the collapsing buildings. She looked around once, and saw the fallen, bleeding form of her mother. She fought back tears, snapping her eyes shut again.
Ray stopped and looked at Kit and her watery eyes. "C'mon Kit. We have to keep going before-" He stopped as a man came and grabbed him by the neck. He struggled to get free but the man's grip was too strong. He soon stopped moving and just laid lifeless in the man's grip. The man tossed him aside and started to ride off again.
Kit picked up a spear, looking over at Ray lying still on the ground. She threw it and speared the guy, dropping to her knees next to Ray. She started trying to wake him up, looking around at the chaos. "Ray...Ray, you can't leave me here, I can't do it alone! Ray, wake up!!"
